Holy shit! You guys have 91, 95, and 98 octane fuels!??!?! Ours are 87, 89, and 91 for premium!

Although, i'm sure we are paying less per gallon. It's about $3.30 USD per gallon here in Texas for 91...

With direct injection, you might even gay away with 91 lol. All petrol has same energy content, but it comes down to how much you compress it to get power out of it. The more you compress, the higher the chance of self ignition, and the higher the ron, the more resistive the fuel is to self ignition. Self ignition (preignition, knock, pinging) is bad. Different fuels have different ron ratings and energy contents (by fuels I mean petrol, ethanol, methanol etc)
I'm hoping e85 becomes more common soon

These are right. US gas is rated (RON+MON)/2 or AKI. Our performance fuels (off road use) are advertised in RON.

.
87, 91, and 93 here in FL. I'm surprised they don't offer higher octanes over there.

Here, it appears to be a function of altitude. In the NW corner of the TX panhandle and NE corner of NM, you can only get 85 - 90. In SE TX you can find 94. They put a little bit more punch in when the O2 gets thin. Lower octane is more energetic, though quick burn isn't the best thing for high performance. (see methanol)

On the other hand, there is California...
