MotorMavens ISIS Performance Exhaust Install

Nice little install writeup from MotorMavens - ISIS Performance Street Exhaust - Scion FRS

I recently discovered the Isis Performance Exhaust for the 2013 Scion FR-S. I spent some time installing it and A LOT of time testing it. When it comes to performance on the FR-S its definitely known for its handling around the bends. The power of the FR-S has been somewhat criticized since its release, however I think its more than enough for street. But extra power is always a nice place to start.

The burnt tips on the muffler definitely stand out of the crowd. Many of the purists and enthusiasts do not favor the burnt blue tips however it has grown on me and I find many 'gear heads' outside of the import community actually like the look especially on the FR-S. It's a nice touch.

Installation was quite a breeze and fitment is great.

Meng Tea, from FRS86, helped out with the install. Once we had all of the parts lined up it seemed like an easy task to tackle. After we removed the stock exhaust we lined up the two to check alignment and to figure out the simple 3 piece jigsaw puzzle.

As we were uninstalling the stock exhaust, Meng started laughing as I dropped the OEM muffler on myself.

I then returned the favor by nearly dropping the car on him...just kidding, he's just thin enough to fit under the low part of the car.

Installation was a a two man job however it is possible to do by yourself if you have a lift.

When it comes to the performance aspect of things, there was a definite noticeable power gain. The Exhaust, when tested by DSport Magazine / Enjuku Racing on the Dyno, gained almost 7 wheel horse power. One of the most power producing exhausts on the market and it's half the cost of many of its competitors at $600.

The exhaust is fully polished and comes in three pieces along with all of the hardware needed to install. (There are two pieces pictured) The only aesthetic thing I noticed about the exhaust which bothered me a little was the amount the tips were burnt on the left and right sides. The coloring was slightly uneven but it was something that wasn't too ba

The exhaust for being a stainless steel one is relatively light. Even compared to the stock one the Isis Performance exhaust seemed noticeably lighter.

The build quality was pretty nice for a reasonably priced exhaust. The welds, since they were robotically welded, are very clean with little to no blemishes on the piping. The mid-pipe also enters the muffler in the middle of the canister, similar to the Miltek Sport Exhaust. This may be why it is a power producing exhaust because there is less piping the exhaust gases need to travel through.

My FR-S wasn't the only FR-S being worked on that evening. Shoutout to HPI Racing and Scion for the FR-S RC car!

The stock exhaust came in two pieces so installation was relatively simple with just a couple of floor jacks and some stands.

Comparing the mufflers, the OEM one is definitely not as flashy and the exhaust tips don't really do the car justice. The tips on my stock one were changed to a slightly larger pair

The exhaust tone was definitely a nice part of the Isis Exhaust. It was throaty and deep while not getting raspy at higher RPMs. The exhaust seemed quieter at higher RPMs while driving but that may be due to other road noises. I thought it would be a little loud for street since its not resonated but its actually at a very nice noise level, where it doesn't attract too much attention but has a nice tone.

Overall I am very satisfied with the exhaust and I would recommend it as a great buy when it comes to performance parts. If you're in the market for great power gain, sound and looks, Isis performance is definitely a great place to start for performance modding on the FR-S/BRZ/GT86. You can find many dealers on www.isisperformance.com/dealers.

Looks good, but this post has to have lowest picture to information ratio in a long time.

How many ways can you photograph two dudes under a car? Actually, scratch that, I'd rather not know the answer.
