i think the problem is that any game that requires has encountered some downtime. it is stupid to not be able to use your system because the servers are down or your internet is down. is there any benefit to requiring the internet?

I heard all the prior updates you get on psn or live is sometimes to help catch or mainly prevent hackers/modders. So I'm just going out on a limb here that having the internet access at all times might have some play in this.

Aren't they making some games for free right now anyways? I noticed PSN has some relatively decent games for free if you have the membership.

Regarding the 400$ pc, maybe U should read my sentence, the one U directly quoted. Here, let me requote it for U

show me a 400$ pc (OS included) that can run ANY console ported game thats come out in past year and look nearly as good as on the console.

I have a pretty nice desktop computer, so I think I'll stick to that for my gaming needs. Since Madden will be coming out before either of these consoles release.... I will probably stick to Xbox/PS3 (I have both) for at least another year. No desire to upgrade, I almost never turn them on anyway.

Exactly this. I used to console and PC game ALL the time. Trailed off to console gaming in college and post college I don't have the desire to play anymore. Occasionally a good game comes out and I buy it, beat it, then don't touch the Xbox until another game comes along.

The reasoning behind it may have less to do with DRM and more with pulling info for their services. They've said that there should be no problem watching movies or playing games without a direct connection. I would assume it would mean that in addition to DRM, it tracks and manages a lot of community data (trending info, which is displayed on the home screen, etc). They're probably trying to figure out how to word it, but it seems you need internet to use most of the services, as well as check DRM once in a while, but it is not required all the time. In this day and age, I don't think that's too much to ask. What home that can afford a $500+ gaming system doesn't have some sort of Internet connection?

i think thats where most of my issue comes from. why would anybody be on board for making a compromise from my experience just so they can track community data? all i see is potential disasters with zero upside for me.

I agree, they're pretty much media players. GT6 will probably be a reason for me to upgrade though. But that's still a ways out.

I've had a solid internet connection pretty much 24/7 since the late 90s. My devices pick up dozens of wifi routers in my complex. I don't think it's really as much of a burden as people make it out to be. It's already been said that it's *not* a constant connection. If you don't want it, that's cool. I still hate Sony's 20-year-old, uncomfortable, poorly laid out controller, and their clunky outdated online network. The PS4 holds none of my interest. And this is coming from a die-hard PS1/PS2 who was horrendously disappointed with PS3.

I was disappointed with the Xbox One reveal. As it stands, if I were to choose today, I would choose the PS4. However, my decision is subject to change once more details are known.

Also, I wonder how much GameStop is cringing now. Since there will be a "fee" to play a used game. If it is quite high, I am sure their business will suffer greatly. A lot of GameStop's revenue comes from used game sales. The incentive to buy used games may diminish if the used game "fee" is too high.

There are interesting developments in the gaming world, that is for sure... for better of for worse.
