I appreciate all the feedback. Yes I was assigned a new salesperson. The transaction was perfect and went as it should. I now have the car in the garage and new lights installed.

I will even give them good feedback. Thanks for listening to me vent and my experience. At the end of the day I am happy with the result and how I handled the situation. You may disagree, that's okay. We all are different. Glad to formally join "the club". :happy0180:

However, once you start to negotiate a better price out of the incident you are monetizing your moral objections.

So what is your price?
They call you a jerk and it is worth $500?
Ass***e gets you $1,000 off?
Sh*thead gets you $1,500 off?

If you had any real dignity you would accept the apology, and/or walk away from the dealership.

To try to use it for personal advantage puts you on the same level as the salesman.
I will answer this. I did not ask them for any deal. It was offered. I didn't demand anything. When the sales manager called to apologize I shut my mouth and let him talk. I know for a fact in the service industry yelling and screaming doesn't work. Nor does making outlandish demands. I was polite and courteous at all times and let him talk and make the offers. I accepted. I don't feel I whored myself out in any way. I let him right wrong. I think degrading the guy by making him apologize to my face would have been far worse. But again, we all have our opinions and I'm happy with how I handled it.

It's a totally different story if you let the manager offer some kind of recompense. I could only hope that I would do as well you did if I found myself under similar circumstances.

Here's an idea. Do nothing. Do you really care that much? If something must be said just simply be a mature adult about it.
Or buy it somewhere else. Pretty easy solution.

I would ask if the car has Bluetooth and demonstrate. With him beside you play the message. Then ask if the manager wants to take a test drive with you. End state you should gt a car with all the options at the very least, at msrp

Shitting a whole thread down can be painful, mods have special conditioning to handle it.
/loltypo

You handled this matter with grace and class, qualities that are increasingly uncommon in our country, especially amongst our youth.

You did The Right Thing. I thought you might, and was hoping you would.

By your own description, that employee was friendly and helpful, and treated you with nothing but respect. What if he’d plopped down on his sofa at home at the end of his day, and related his thoughts to his wife of the day’s events? How would that have been any different? It wouldn’t. It’s either wrong or not wrong to express one’s private critical thoughts; where one does so is immaterial so long as care is taken to keep them private. He did that. You overheard his thoughts (hardly critical at all, from what you wrote) through an accident of modern technology, nothing more. Those barely “critical” thoughts were never directed towards you or yours. Upsetting? Yes. But, mostly … very funny. You’ll laugh in the years to come. You’ll see.

You may even buy another car from that guy. (You can be reasonably assured that he got a “split deal” on the commission, as small as it may have been, so don’t fret on that account. He got paid.)

That dealership treated you well, ESPECIALLY in the aftermath of that unfortunate “technology hiccup.” I agree with you that they EARNED a top customer survey score. Polish off your act of decency by giving the dealership AND THE SALESMEN (2) top marks, as you say you plan to do.

Causing a man to lose his job for nothing more than accidentally overhearing his PRIVATE thoughts, PRIVATELY EXPRESSED, would have been a CONTEMPTIBLE and DESPICABLE act on your part.

Instead you behaved as a decent and honorable man, a COMPASSIONATE man.

Never apologize for that, least of all to a disgraceful, ignorant, howling lynch mob.

Well done, young fellow. Congratulations, and enjoy your wonderful new car.

You earned my respect.
