Dealer busted making fun....

So I was negotiating with a dealer and finally got them to give me what I wanted for my wife's car. A little history on me. I talked to a guy that I thought was pretty cool. Gave him my story. I own a 2013 Escape and my wife is in an old corolla. I was trading her car in to get something fun for me while giving her the new Escape. We also have two babies. Both are under 2. I'm 33 years old if that matters.

So on Saturday my wife and I took her car in and had it looked at. I also tried to put a car seat in the back. I was delighted that it fit. Now mind you this is for emergency purposes only. The family hauler will be the Escape. I only need room back there if we get in a bind and I have to pick the kids up. I then test drove it and smiled the whole time. They wouldn't give me what I wanted in trade so I left knowing I would get the call when they thought about it a while.

So sure enough he called today and advised they would meet me half way. This was fine as it was within $10 of where I wanted to be. I thanked him and the salesman explained how he was my advocate and really pushed and congratulated. I told him I wanted a red one. If I was going to a sports car I wanted to do it right.

Sounds good right? Well here is what happened.......

The numb nut butt dialed me and called me back. So I called him back 15 minutes later and he said he didn't call. Well he did and I have the voicemail to prove it. It went something like this:

"I'm 99% sure I sold the FR-S. This guy does not need this car. I tried to sell him a TC. He even put his car seat in the back. He's some insurance salesman and will be getting in and out of that thing. Yeah he has two babies and you should have seen his wife. He's only 33 and having a mid life crisis. "

Now the parts I quoted were just the parts I could make 100%. There were other comments about having a crappy car to trade in and I think what little commission he is making on the deal ( I have a blank check from my credit union). They were still talking and it cut off.

Now I'm a pretty decent guy. I understand people make mistakes. But I'm super pissed over this. Your thoughts? I want to go and see him tomorrow and shut his door and play the message.

I would have the dealership get a red FR-S in and have them do the hassle of getting it on the lot. Then, I would I sit down and almost sign the papers, but then whip out the voicemail and say Go F*** yourself.

Also, you seem like a decent guy. So, I agree people make mistakes; however, but that was not a mistake. What he said was more of a lack of courtesy and respect towards people he does not know.

Good luck! Don't give them a sale.

When's the right time to have a mid-life crisis?

Take him to the cleaners.

Either they offer you a great deal way below invoice or you post this to every single social media site the dealership participates in

I'd make sure the manager is present too :)

Go in(don't call) and tell them that a salesman butt dialed you and left a very unflattering voicemail that you're sure they wouldn't want anyone out side the dealership to hear(like Toyota) and then ask to speak to the highest level person there to discuss whether you're going to be buying from them and how much you'll be paying.

I had a situation like this a number of years ago where the finance person made a sexual comment and I immediately walked out, got someone and got it "corrected" with a price adjustment.

Sit down with the GM of the dealership and play the voicemail. Tell him they better make it worth your while to buy the car. Let him know you frequent forums and such, and you have no problem making the VM public. :)

Id walk in and ask to have the GM and Owner of the dealership in one office with the salesmen and play it for everyone. '

That's disrespectful and he should get whats coming to him

The way I see it is that I will never worry about my age until I'm dead. I've always felt that way.

Anyone know how to take a voicemail on android and youtube it? I'm fresh off coming from and iphone to a galaxy and its a learning curve. Probably I'm too old to figure it out.

Wow! What a douchebag! I definitely would like to see where this goes.

I'm an iPhone user, but I heard you can transfer voicemails using "Google Voice".

But then again I'm 24 and I'm having a midlife crisis, so don't listen to me.

Take it up with the GM first and go from there. If nothing transpires to your satisfaction in all fairness, then you go to the regional manager. "If" this issue is not solved at this level, then you need to address scion/toyota corp. Believe me, they will hear you and rectify it properly.

FYI: This is from personal experiences.

I like this idea...too much actually.

If you decide to show him the voice mail, please film it. You'll make some money off the YouTube video

Address it with Toyota/Scion....go to another dealer....forget this dealership, don't give them your business.
