I am waiting though, either for used cheaper frs, then mod, or to see what the manufacturer have in mind. Maybe a limited version, not the 10. I am also waiting on the new WRX STI, after all that car is 4 doors, and awd. It is better for family. |

300whp with the fr-s will be great fun, but just think of all the money your wasting if you go that route! I don't know what you do for a living, but I'm struggling just trying to find the money to turbo my first car (fr-s) - couldn't imagine doing it twice and throwing away all the hard work in the first. I just can't imagine why you'd spend so much work on your car and then sell it!
My advice - keep your car, and buy a second car for a DD/autox car if that's what you want. A used miata will get you 90% of the enjoyment of an FR-S, especially if its just going to be an autox car. You can turbo a miata as well, and for a lot cheaper! Either way, its your money. I'd sit on it for at least a month. If your sure this is what you want that's your choice, I just can't stand to see somebody sell a car they spent their hard work & money on for pennies. EDIT: I know you said your S.O. said no second car, but who are you kidding your obviously not listening to her either way, haha . Just do what's going to make you happiest, dude! If you hate your car and want it gone, by all means sell it for an fr-s, but otherwise I recommend just get a second car you can beat on and take to the track (e.g. a miata).

Only you know the answer ...
I will tell you that my last two cars were an 08 C6 vette and an E46 M3. Some mods to the M and the C6 was stock as it didn't need anything.. Picked up the FRS as my one and only car.. I always had a beater car to go along with my fun car. I've only had the FRS for about a month.. And I'm enjoying it more than my other high dollar toys.. It's a well rounded package with useable power made for the real world.. It's looks good, handles great and makes some very entertaining noises. You can put your foot in it and keep it there.. Which makes more sense than all that macho HP you can't really use in the real world. I paid $1600 for my last set of tires on the vette.. Won't miss that. So while many on here are starting out with the FRS/BRZ and looking to go up the ladder... I'm on my way down and loving it more. Knowing that I paid about 1/3 the price for this car also makes it more enjoyable to use.. And it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow... Good luck with ur decision.. It's not an easy one.. Either way... U will enjoy the ride.. |

Literally all those criteria are met by a stock FRS. You can slide like hell, constantly. You can auto-cross and all it needs is tires to be an absolute weapon. horsepower is wasted in autocross for the most part. Why on earth would you spend all that time and money turbocharging it and doing a full suspension when it's already one of the best-handling cars on the road stock? Just get tires, if you even do that, and go at it. Honestly, stock it's damn near perfect. get the TRD full intake, some headers, and a tune, and you'll be in great shape out in cone-land. Seriously, if you're gonna do all that work, do it to a miata or something where it's actually affordable to do. |

I could be completely wrong, but if you can't get on board with the ultimate lightweight, cheap, RWD, good handling car I think over time you'll be disappointed with an FRS. Edit: Also don't look at payments, that's an easy way for a dealer to steal another thousand dollars off you and when you break everything down into "oh I only have to pay $xxx this month, no big deal" you'll end up a slave to debt. |

Keep the current car since you already put so much into it. It's also a nice rare ride. Give the FR-S a few years and buy it used for 10k or wait for the subaru AWD STI turbos to be release. It's only a matter of time before they do it.
Your priorities may also change down the line with kids and family. No point dumping money and constantly modding a vehicle. Taking the family for vacation is much more rewarding. I have my eye out on the FR-S as well, but in the meantime I'm gonna enjoy my current ride which is also RWD.

I'm too tall for it as I stare into the top of the windshield. I know a guy nearby that has one and he has an aftermarket steering wheel so he can fit in it. Capable or not.. It's not for everyone. The FRS is much easier to live with on a daily basis in comparison. If you get one... Do yourself a favor and drive it for a few thousand miles before you do any mods.. I think it's fine right out of the box.. And I'm used to lots of V8 torque.. The FRS is nicely balanced in its execution.. Power wise and handling wise.. It's pure and gives great feedback to the driver.. Has a nice mechanical feel to it.. Refined yet visceral feeling.. I modded and screwed up more cars than I care to admit.. Always started with more power until I upset the whole package.. If you want a fast car.. Buy a fast car.. Nuff said. |
