As much as I love my FR-S... I wouldn't do it.

You've obviously spent a ton of time and money on that car. Seems like a waste to me to sell it for the FR-S.

Just my .02

Keep the lexus and pick up something cheap for a track car. U will have alot more fun tracking a X000$ project 240sx or miata than u will tracking ur DD 25k$ frs and having even a minor run in w another car or wall. Just my .02$

agreed

Go for a test drive before you decide.

I can totally understand moving away from the high hp focus, there are several members here who have moved away from Porsches and Corvettes with no regrets, they can drive an 86 every day and still have fun on normal roads as well as the track, it makes great sense for a single impractical car.

I wouldn't do it if you want to get heavily involved in auto cross or another racing series where you'll end up throwing a ton of money at the car to get it track ready, there are SO many cheaper options to have track dedicated car. If you want a reliable DD that is fun (FUN, not fast) on the track the 86 is probably a good fit.

Unless of course you have money to burn in which case who cares? Make mistakes.

Edit: Also, I think a very important criteria is "Would I be happy with a Miata?" If the answer is "no" you'll probably have regrets down the road, especially when you think about the 700hp monster you sold for what is essentially a miata crossed with an s2k with a roof.

i would wait till u can keep the SC and buy the FRS... couple years? insurance dont cost THAT much

You'll need a new License Plate....

Whitigir 05-21-2013 11:43 PM

I would sell SC and buy FRS. Old car break down, even if you keep it well, and spent a lot of money into it.

Frs has the same capability, maybe less, but will be as fast, if you spend money. Again, you will be wasting your money, because the stuff in the car is too new, playing around with it is a waste, unless you bring it to a shop.

So if i was to have 45k laying around, i would sell SC, spend 30k on frs, then 15k into a professional shop to build it to 400 rwhp reliably.

I would advise against this.

If you throw on a bunch of mods you defeat the ONLY logical reason to buy new: warranty.

If you want a car that handles like a monster and you're going to throw a bunch of money at it anyway save yourself $10k (at LEAST) and start with an S2000 or Miata or Mustang or something else that you can buy used, you will still get the performance you want but with much less money spent.

Stick with the Soarer. Put that last little bit of money into making this car flawless. Fix the badge holes in the rear or toss an emblem on it, replace the crack on the rear lip, repaint it, fixed the scratched tail, touch up the engine bay, get on the cover of some tuner mag.

I really like your car to be honest, and if I like it, you must love it. I think you'd regret it too much. You'll be able to buy stock FR-S on the cheap in a few years, you know the dealer will rape you in the trade in, and it will be difficult to find someone willing to pay for what the car is worth in upgrades. I think it would be best for you to keep it and enjoy it.

Lonewolf 05-21-2013 11:55 PM

Are your friends paying for the car? Are your friends driving your car? If the answer is no, who the hell cares what they think. Drive an FRS/BRZ and if you like it/can see the potential, great, you know what to do.

If you don't like it, look for something else to autocross...
