BadMoon,

The most valuable thing you have here is your time. Despite some of the interesting suggestions posted here, wasting a moment of your time seeking revenge or searching for another car at another dealer is crazy as long as you are happy with the deal being offered. Good Luck from Amish Land, PA!

I'd have a good laugh at hearing something I shouldn't have, maybe counsel the salesman to be more careful, and continue on as planned. This seems like pretty normal human behavior, especially when there's frequently time to kill waiting for something to happen.

I follow your logic. I really don't want to repeat this process again. I'm sure sure I taught the guy a lesson. I would have been amazingly embarrassed to have to tell my boss I did something like that.

Since you talked to the salesman....
If he feels bad, tell him you will only make the deal if you get 4 free oil changes over 40,000 miles.

I agree with you. The guy was clearly in the wrong, but I also believe in second chances and I would also like to believe he learned a lesson.

It is more important how you feel about the outcome and if you are satisfied, so be it.

My guess is the salesman won't last long at this if he does not change his ways.

For what it's worth, I think you have done the right thing, and hopefully he has learned a lesson. Since you have spoke with his boss, who is clued in, and they are offering you an attractive deal, I would accept it. No reason to try and push the envelope with more freebies, etc.

You have the right car for the right price...now close the deal and get to driving it!

Many moons ago my uncle went through this with a camaro...salesman calling him a dumb hick (this was before cell phones and voicemail).

A deal is a deal why not bite and save some dollars for your kiddies and wife. But if you buy a car from them never ever take it in for service. I'm sure they'll have flagged your VIN in their system (or if the salesman saw your car on the lot and got "ideas") and you'll end up with lousy customer service for the duration of your ownership.

The dealer is offering a pretty remarkable deal on the car. Or rather extremely over valued my trade in. It's way over the blue book value (up by about $1,700 from their first offer). My payments would be under where I wanted to be.

Now I have bought from this dealership in the past and had an extremely positive experience. It's why I haven't named names.

I have some things to think about.
I think you handled it well, and I think they responded appropriately (assuming they appologized). Assuming the salesman is genuinely contrite, I would consider the matter closed.

So yeah - if they have the car you want (color, options etc) then go get it.

Take the deal and run with it. Hopefully it's a lesson learned by the salesman and life goes on.

If anything, buy the car, and then go to www.dealerrater.com and give that salesman a bad review.

I'm glad my experience buying my first car was really easy. The dealer basically bent over backwards to get me into it (an extra 2k on my trade in, and $500 under sticker), basically I just went in "This is what I want, this is how much I got." Bought it within 5 hours.

We all say things about other people, be they strangers or acquaintances or friends and family, but 99% those comments are never heard, let alone recorded. The fact is, you lucked out in getting that conversation recorded, which saved you a boat load of money. A car is a car; if you want it then you want it, if it's cheap then it's cheap. If you have the luxury of "sticking it to the guy" and going elsewhere (and also paying more for it), great, but a deal is a deal.

Congrats on the purchase!
