I have narrowed the noise down to the headliner right behind the driver seat. I have had the c-pillar covers off, and headliner pulled down on the rear side multiple times in the past several weeks. I have added foam to many areas in the headliner, around cables and connectors. And, have had no luck getting the sound to go away.
If I apply a slight pressure to the headliner behind the seat while it is rattling, it does go away. I have checked the clamps on the airbag components, and they are all very tight. My car is at the dealer for this right now...I gave up. They could not reproduce the sound yesterday...hopefully they get it to happen today. I happens for me every day. The 2013 Forester loaner car they provided has a similar rattle, but it is even worse.

Any thoughts on this buzzing noise at around 1400 rpm? (Ignore the image stabilization noise on the camera...forgot to turn that off for the video.) I don't think I had the noise until I installed the Perrin catback.
[ame]http://youtu.be/uowgMjO94X8[/ame] Here's another short video without the image stabilization noise. There's just this buzz that's isolated around 1300-1400 rpm. [ame]http://youtu.be/3UcA972FCuk[/ame] Last edited by Phaedrus29; 05-07-2013 at 09:14 PM. |

Has anyone noticed a creaking noise coming from this area as well? I had the popping after getting my car back from the body shop, but it went away after a while.
However, after driving to Denver for my new job (almost 1800 miles - fun!), I've noticed that when there is a "twisting" force on the body (such as when I'm going up a driveway at an angle, for example) I can hear a creaking noise that seems to come from the same area that the popping did. Is it just that whatever was popping wore down enough to change the sound, or could it be something else? I might try the WD-40 trick to see if it goes away - if not I'll ask them to look at it when I get my oil changed. |

I have that too and I'm using white lithium grease to get rid of that noise. But it's only temporary. The noise comes back after a month or so. I'll try WD40 next time to see if that lasts longer as rear deck noise is gone for 7 1/2 months now with WD40. |

they found the rattle in my car. it has been gone for the last few days
. It looks like they had to manipulate some of the pinch welds in the roof area close to the c-pillar.

I got my car in February, and noticed this noise last week, in May. Found this thread, drenched the two areas inside the trunk with white lithium grease, and now i don't hear that noise anymore.

Got my car in February and had exactly this issue pop up after about a month and 2000 miles. Definitely a metallic 'click' sound like two parts snapping loose against each other, not dissimilar from the plastic bottle pop sound as some describe it.
Typically at low speeds when some bumps or irregularities int he road so that you torque the chassis. Folding down the rear seats and taking spare wheel and tools out of the trunk does not help. If anything it just makes you hear the noise louder. Will bring it in to the Scion dealer tomorrow have them look at it since I don't have a garage to work in myself. I'll bring along the service bulletin and hopefully put them on the right track. Thanks for posting all the good info on this very annoying issue. Edit after visiting the dealer: They acknowledged the issue and said Toyota are working on a service bulletin. They will call me back for the official fix within a week or two they said. Will let you know if that fixes my issue. Last edited by ollepellijeff; 05-17-2013 at 08:23 PM. Reason: After visiting the dealer |

I've tried twice. First time they did a spray like the Subaru TSB describes - worked for 2 days. Second time last week - dealer called Toyota and waited for a fix recommendation. They had the dealer insert felt pieces (called it a "noise cancelling kit" or something like that) - today the noise is back. Ugh.
