Yesterday I took the afternoon to continue my e-tune with FA20club.
I had a fresh new updated rom map to try from Tony. So I loaded the map into the car at around 13h15 and I drove the car to record multiples logs. After viewing the logs back home, it look like my car was too lean... So I immediately sended those logs to Tony via email to let him know it was lean. I got a new map from Tony at around 14h45. At 15h00 I was back on the road to record new logs for Tony. At 15h15, I stopped my car on the side of the road to take a look at my last logs to see if the car was running richer and it was now better and safer. At 15h20, I restarted the car and drove for a hundred feets to a stop to take the highway. As I was shifting my second gear on the highway I decided to put the vsc sport mode on and turn off the traction control also and right after this I've put the pedal to the floor and then my problem started right there. My car had lost all his power and it was doing a weird intake noise and I could feel some shake or vibration coming from the engine until my shifter... At 15h26 I recorded a logs from the second gear to the fifth gear to see what was wrong.. As you will see onto the last graph below I had a problem with the VVT intake and exhaust angle. I did not push my car since this happened so I dont know if my newer reflash may have fix the problem. I'm just affraid to push the car now. I drive it slowly and it goes fine but I wonder if I broked something into the engine... What should I do ?

Why not just talk with Tony so he can sort it out?

Tony told me that if I had something broke I would most likely have a CEL. Probably true....
He also told me to perform the DTC scan tool but I already had reflashed my ecu when I came back home after the run...So no DTC error has been found naturaly. From my side I would like to understand why this happened.. Is it another ecutek electronic bug or I broked something physical into the engine ? Perhap I'm not the only one to who this happened.

Also I wonder if running the stock map is safe when you have open the intake and almost all the exhaust system.

OK, it could have been a bad flash, not a bad map but a glitch in the file write process. I would flash again and just log VVT and RPM in real time and gently roll into it to see if the cam timing is still hosed.

It does not look tune related, as the cams were basically locked at full retard the oscillation on the intake came was 0 to 1 degree of advance like it was trying to advance the cam but could not.
looks like the system was not functioning. could be a cam angle sensor or one of the the oil control screen got clogged. the system may go into failsafe mode if it detects an issue with any one cam. butno need to panic just yet, flash the latest rom again and go for a short log, no need to run it through 3 gears, or even go wot. You should be able to watch the logger while you drive... if the cams are not moving off zero at low rpm cruise don't bother driving it hard. lightly accelerating through first and second in your neighborhood should be enough to tell you if its working or not.

Did you let the car idle for a while after each flash? The cams can take a while to reset after you flash it. You should not touch the throttle during this time. You should watch the intake cam and wait for it to start reading in the negetives (exp -.01)

The vvt intake and exhaust angle worked fine today. Let's hope it will not happen again. I will also stay away from the VSC sport mode button and the traction control button for now.....

OP, this looks similar to some of the logs I took when I was having my OCV/Cam angle sensor issue. Basically at idle or partial throttle sometimes the cam angle sensors were not at the correct position and this looks very much like that. Try logging with all the VVTI and Cylinder Misfire parameters on. While logging, when the engine is warm, rev the engine to 2000 RPM for 5 seconds then drop to idle for 10 seconds, 3000 RPM for 5 seconds then idle for 10 seconds, then 3500 or 4000 rpm for 5 seconds and idle for 10 seconds. When my cam angle sensors/OCV was borked, this provoked a series of misfires. When performing this procedure I could literally watch them counting up like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7....I think it was cylinder #3? Check the VVTI TSB and bring it to your local dealer with a good service department. |
