The handbrake is your friend in these situations.

Other than an E46 M3 with a SMG transmission I've never owned an auto sports car, but living in LA where commuting to work (9 miles) takes me anywhere from an hour to and hour and a half. I'm beginning to consider my options.

So initally a 6MT for me, but I'll leave my final decision until I get to drive both. And for those of you who state that if you don't choose a manual you're not a purist. Please get off your high horse. I mean really. Who are you, or anyone for that matter, to lay judgement on others. If you're merely stating your opinion, I understand, but to make blanket statements like that shows little class. I can see it now... there are people out there already saying that FRS/BRZ isn't a real sports car because a Camry will outrun it 0 - 60 and the 1/4 mile.

Let this argument die already...

Orthodoxy views on sports cars cars (ignoring nearly all super cars and all F1 cars, BTW) aside:

(1) all sports cars will have some sort of auto (DSG, or whatever) within, oh, 15 or so years -- your grandkids will have no idea why people ranted and raved over the joys of operating three pedals and a lever just to get anywhere -- it will be like reminiscing over a horse and buggy...),

and

(2) in less than 25 years they'll probably all have electric motors that make peak torque at 1 RPM and only have 1 or 2 speeds to deal with.

That is all.

Stick. Slower but more fun for me. I drove an IS-F around a track. It was fun, but I'd still rather have a third pedal.

faster does not always equal more fun control is nice

No reason to get worked up over it cause no one on the internet can force you to do anything. remember this one kid XD

You know what else is fun. Tuning a carburetor. Old tech and on it's way out. That's just the way it is.

Manual here. Just wish they had gone for the great auto rev-matching feature introduced in the 370Z.

This thread is hilarious...people saying manuals are easier to drive in traffic than autos. Seriously trolling. Cmon people, using two feet vs using one...which is more effort? But as someone stated previously, beating a dead horse because there are hardcore manual purists in the world. My left leg has gotten numb sitting in traffic on the way to vegas so +1 for a manual driver who does not prefer to drive a stick in traffic. My friend had to actually stop because he got tired of revving to 2k because he has 6lb. flywheel and 6 puck clutch pushing 400whp as DD lol. Right now I am trying to see whether i will dd this car in LA or just redline it all day like I do to my gsr.

We shall see how mr. tada's auto manual transmission fares....

You will never see gear ratios like short of an exotic.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the auto on the FRS/BRZ did rev match on downshifts. At least that's what I remember reading somewhere. Of course, I could be wrong as I've sorted through a lot of info (most speculation) about these cars. Can anyone confirm?

He was talking about the 370z's rev match for the MANUAL transmission
