My car came with a TRD filter. I feel cheated in two ways. IIRC the filter was a $75 option. I'm going to be paying interest on that $75 until I pay the car off. I also never got to see what it felt like with the stock filter, so the old butt dyno isn't satisfied.

I was saying the same thing. I have the aem intake and when that was installed it felt like a serious VTEC surge around 5k to redline. So noticeble. Too bad we top out at 7400 and don't start the redline at 8k

I think the benefits with CAI is the diameter of the pipe. If you increase the diameter of the inlet tube, you allow a higher flow rate. As it converges to the throttle body, you decrease area which increases flow velocity all while having the higher flow rate.
Flow rate for piping in series=(Velocity of inlet)*(Area of inlet)=(Velocity at throttle body)*(Area at throttle body)
This is if the air flow isn't supersonic that is.

TL;DW: Keep, the stock airbox and just use drop ins. An aftermarket intake in the engine bay will cause you to lose power, and you will see slight gains if the intake is outside of the engine bay, but you won't really notice it.
I don't have time to watch this but a cold air intake adds more oxygen content into the charge so it will allow more fuel into the volumized compression. It will add power but not all intakes are created equally and a tune is typically necessary to optimize.

Oem intake is already cold air intake.
Takes air in front of the radiator un bumper.
Most of car nowaday's are already fited with cold air OEM.
Even VW van have cold air intake since 1996.

Thats where a Ecutek tune can come in raises rev limit to 8000.

If I ever did that I would want to buy a replacement tach gauge so that the start of the red is like 78, or 7900. It wouldn't give me a happy feeling to see it's in the red! Even if it's raised. But kudos that must be nice. The AEM I felt the most safe with the eletronic MAF module.

Hahaha, either way the engine will be less reliable in the long term if you keep on thrashing it to 8000. the raised rev limit is good when you would like to reach 60mph in 2nd gear and when you want to overtake someone on the track and dont feel like shifting.

Whats better? AEM or AFE? Word is that AFE is the best intake only when you get it tuned. Perrin CAI is best for untuned.

Idk man, I think it's all subjective at this point. The perrin has drawbacks (hard to install, could possibly get water into the intake, difficult to clean later on)

The AFE you need a tune and that could void warranty. The injen is causing all sorts of problems. The AEM is a bawse with the electronic module and dyno #s of 10+ hp in the top end. The air raid has had a few known bogging issues in the beginning. I think at the end of the day it comes down to the individual and what their use case is. I am just excited that we have so many options barely a year into the model!

Cold Air Intakes are mainly an improvement on the sound. And that's something these cars need IMO. Also they are more aesthetically pleasing. There are slight hp gains, nothing major.
