Just fyi, before you decide to pull the trigger on this, it doesnt exist yet. They are selling it, but its a pre-order. It hasnt been released and there is no release date. I havent even heard of anyone receiving them in Australia, where Sprintex (the maker of the supercharger itself) is. And nobody is releasing any information of any use, just teaser pictures and videos. aka, unicorn supercharger.

And to answer your first question, no..you will not get to keep your warranty after adding a supercharger (at least not on the engine/drive train components).

Honestly I would rather be doing my own oil changes anyways to make sure its being done right. I wouldn't trust the dealer with my car especially with the vortech kit on it. If any problem ever came up with the car I think it would be pretty hard to hide the install from the dealer if any problems were to occur although it may be doable. Once I installed my kit I accepted the fact that my warranty would pretty much be voided.

If you have any engine or drivetrain issues, and the dealer knows you installed an FI kit and they are not mod-friendly, they will almost certainly decline any warranty claims.

If you have a mod-friendly dealer and they determine the problem is not related to your FI kit, they will probably be cool with it.

If you installed an FI kit and you plan on bringing your car in to a dealer that is not mod-friendly for any work at all, I would count on them making a note in their records that you've modified the engine. So change your own oil if at all possible.

If you have any issues that are not likely caused by your FI kit, for the love of god, go back to stock to rule out any problems with the kit and to bring your car back to the dealer for any warranty work.

If you know your issues are caused by your FI kit and you play by the rules, are manning up to your own decisions in life, and understand that you have to "pay to play", then you already know that you're not going to the dealer for any warranty work on that.

I think that about sums up all the variables.

In case anyone is looking for a mod-friendly dealer in the NYC/LI area, check out Metric Subaru in Huntington, LI. They also run a speed shop, MSPT/Performance Auto Solutions in Deer Park.

If the TRD supercharger is installed at an authorized Toyota Dealer (stacks on stacks on stacks of cash), Id say you can keep your warranty - at least thats how it works with all other Toyota superchargers.

So this isn't out yet, but it should be at some point?
There is light at the end of the tunnel and it isn't an oncoming train?

Another unicorn, imo. They said they would release one and they did..a race only one that costs as much as the car..and must be purchased in pairs. No word on whether or not there would be a street-legal one from TRD (that I have seen anyway). At least they arent missing promised dates like the twinscrew.

I wasn't looking for a way to cheat the system. I just want to make an informed decision. During lunch I asked a service adviser at the nearest Scion certified dealership and was told in very polite terms that I could kiss my powertrain warranty goodbye. He did his best to try and hide the fact that he clearly thought I was delusional for even asking the question, but he did say, "you lose nothing by asking."
So now I know.
