I've only driven manual for about half a year (learned it just to drive the FRS). Never been a car guy, but now I track my FRS as much as I can locally and sometimes outside my country. It literally puts a big smile and make me laugh out loud everything I drive the car.

I just want to know why the OP felt the need to resurrect the thread after 10 months of inactivity. Can't we just let some threads die?

I was reading an issue of Evo quoted above when I saw a comment mirroring my own, causing it not to be in the running for top 6 of car of the year.

I'm of the opinion that old threads don't die, they just get archived until they become relevant again.

I for one am glad there's so much people complaining about the power of these cars. Makes a higher power version in the future much more likely

If they make an N/A brz sti with 250bhp and as light as this car, I'd be very tempted to trade in my car for that!

Interesting read... But if you wanted to toss the rear around.. Then why didn't you test drive the manual..?
The car was designed to be tail happy.. Made to move about predictably at "realistic" speeds.. Which is what makes it fun to drive. I would expect it to fall short on a fast track.. That's not its strong point..
Is exciting to drive on a daily basis without having to drive all that fast..

That's exactly my impression of the AP1's handling. Initial oversteer LURCH followed by neutrality. It feels nonlinear and gimmicky, a bit weird.

You can love a car and recognize its weak points. I love my S2000 despite the above-mentioned handling weirdness.

That's fine. But surely given your lack of experience you should be able to appreciate that others with more experience in different cars might be able to offer a bit of critical review of the FR-S's handling, without simply writing it off as "hate".

I haven't bought an FR-S or BRZ, yet. I'm very interested to know whether or not the reported handling traits are due to rear toe change with bump, which is what the AP1 suffers from. So I'm glad to see this thread revived (although I still don't have an answer...).

I've since tried one, no real change in my opinion of the rear wheel steering under compression, but much more controllable with power. The notchy gear box is a treat.

I would have one as well, the wife likes how they look, and it would be her's so I could keep the S in my collection. Of course I would have to throw a few parts on it to firm it up a bit. The "bending in the center" feeling as she calls it actually upsets her stomach. She drives a Saabaru now, with quite a lot of the rear steer in it, exaggerated by its stock springs. I put massive swaybars on it to reduce it somewhat, I would do the same to a BRZ.
