It really depends on the situation and car in question.
Buying a new car means a level of commitment you don't have to deal with when buying a used car. To some, that commitment is worthless and a waste. To others, that commitment inspires a deeper ownership. -When a average person goes to a dealer to buy a used car, they can complete the transaction in a afternoon. You get what you get. -When an average person goes to a dealer to buy a new car, they can spend an entire day at the dealer, signing papers, adding options, getting warranted work. And your generally getting more fluff with your purchase. Right now, other than the BRZ/FRS. there is nothing i would buy new. I even looked up on craigslist and found 2 used unmolested FRS, and id consider it. But id still rather buy it new. Why? I want a deeper ownership, responsibility, and commitment from the car all it has to offer right out of the factory. There are a few used cars out there that id wish i could buy brand new. If the S15 silvia was being sold right now NEW, buy it. GC8 WRX STI id buy new. Integra/Civic Type R id buy new, FC rx7 Turbo 2 or even a E30 M3. And id be wholly committed to spending MSRP over the used ones on the market knowing that any of those cars i listed was fresh off the factory, complete with owners assurance, warranty. Its just a better feeling.

Used is fine, it all depends on availability and price. You can buy my frs for example, and you will get coilovers and wheels for the same price as a new car!

Typically I buy new and hold on to cars for a while. However the FRS I just bought was owned by a friend and the deal was to good to pass up. He had bought it for his son who joined the military a couple months later. It became a back up daily driver when he didn't feel like driving his F250.

I've always bought used vehicles (trucks... the BRZ is actully my first car... ever). I would buy a used BRZ, but I got such a good deal at Heuberger Subaru that there was no point, and there aren't many used ones floating around yet anyway. If this were 2016, I'd almost certainly be looking for a used one. As it is I'll keep mine for a long, long time.

personally i'd never buy a sports/performance car used. you'd NEVER know what the previous owner did to it. hell, i wouldn't trust it even if I was selling one to myself!

I always buy used too (VW Gti, Honda FIT) but I heard something on a car show that made me pause...
It was in regards to the old Firebird and how back in the 80's it was impossible to find a used one that hadn't been beaten on. I think the same applies to allot of FRS's.

And you'd think it being so 'underpowered' would keep the adrenaline down :P
I really needa find a way to get a test drive in one of these somewhere where the speed limit is a bit higher than 45 mph :/ |

I told myself I'd never buy a brand new car...but then again I wouldn't trust sports car drivers to not drive their cars in a way befitting the car type. New, for that reason alone.

Bottom line, if there's a car you really want and you can't afford it new, you'll get it used.
Well, for me anyway. I beat on my car just like anyone else, but still hop in it the next day and expect it to start/get me to my destination reliably. Would I want to know that someone else was beating on my car before me? No, but they probably wouldn't have done anything worse than I have. Obviously there are exceptions like retitled salvage or something, but overall the abuse the car goes through is similar whether its me driving or the person before me. Now, I bought my car new, but if I had to have an frs, and the only way I could afford it was used, that's what I'd do. |
