There is an octane booster at Canadian tire that boosts the octane level 6 numbers or 60 points that will get you back to 93.

It isn't of consequence because automakers figured out 20 years ago that if they don't prepare for that kind of idiocy engines will fail and the ensuing shit-storm is damaging to their reputation.

Sensors detect knock; timing gets pulled, knock reduces, repeat until no knock occurs. Loop.

Is there some damage to the engine? Possibly. Is it going to explode over the next 200,000 miles of regular driving if taken care of properly? Highly unlikely. Engines are designed to be tough and withstand the modern driver, stop fear mongering and start learning.

Edit: Personally I do not trust additives, at best snake oil that does no damage, half a tank won't hurt anything, I'd put 100 bucks on 10k miles of regular gas not hurting anything either.

So what say you to the people in the Midwest that only have access to 91? 93 pumps are *extremely* rare in Nebraska and Iowa and most of the ones that are 93 are E10.

your engine will adjust

it won't perform at its peak efficicency but it's not going to die either.

Dealers don't even seem to realize these cars need premium gas. When I got mine I said to the salesman as he was leaving to fill it up "you're putting in 93 right?" and he replied "These cars need 93"?".

dilute the 87 and top the car off with 93. Take it easy and keep your foot out of the gas until next fill-up.

Go to the nearest airport and have them fill the rest of the tank with jet fuel. That will combine with the regular octane and even out to between 91-93.

If you want to completely stuff your engine put in jet fuel[Avtur] which is a kerosene type fuel more like diesel than petrol/gasoline.

I think you meant aircraft piston engine fuel or Avgas which is high octane petrol/gasoline.

Ooh, jesus. Yeah, AVGAS LL110 or UL105 if you can get that instead. Don't put the full leaded shit in there. And jet fuel is a fantastic way to mangle car engines.

So run E10? Only way I can get 100 octane is E10. No chirping for me, either.

The pinging is just detonation. Your ecu will detect this and pull timing thus reducing horsepower. I have accidentally filled up with 95RON/91AKI on a really early morning and redlined it to get to work quickly at almost every stoplight. On the drive home, it was pinging. So i drove gently and brought 2 bottles of octane booster and filled up with 98RON/93AKI. And the pinging was gone almost instantly after.

There should be a sign on the fuel cap that say something like "PREMIUM 98RON FUEL RECOMMENDED"

Just detonation!!! Detonation is what melts pistons.

If you can hear it then it's outside the range of the knock sensors because they will detect it and adjust before you can hear it.

I'm surprised that 95RON made it pre-ignite because the book does say it can be used if 98 is unavailable but 98+ is what it's tuned for. 98 RON only on the filler cap, so I don't know how they can sell it in US states with only 91AKI available?

Be careful using octane booster. I think it can damage the catalytic converters?
