Thumb buttons require me to break proper grip anyway. Besides, I had the exact same CC selector on my tC for 8 years, so it's second nature to me already.

My suggestion is that you go out and buy a different steering wheel.

The ideal mod would be replacement of this useless (for me) feature with radio volume control "up/down" and "next station" - all what I need from the steering weel controls.

Just snap that baby right off. Easy and free, no new wheel required.

Ughh lucky you guys. The base model here in Dubai, UAE has no cruise control and it's a pain since we mostly do highway trips!

Why'd I get the base model? because that's the only model that comes with a manual gear, otherwise the second best and the best comes as an automatic!

Not sure if anyone else has had this happen, but if I've got cruise control set to 65 and try to increase by 1 mph increments the cruise won't go faster than 67 mph. I'm not sure if that's a factory program or what, I've had something similar happen in my girlfriends 07 Camry, it won't let me go past 70. Otherwise it's wonderful to have since my last car didn't have it and the 400+ mile highway drives could become a pain.

For those of you who never use your cruise control, I hope you're not THAT guy....the one who passes me and then slows down so I have to pass him back 10 times on the freeway. Or THAT guy who catches up to me and then hangs on my rear quarter panel no matter if I up my speed or not. If your THAT guy, please reconsider using you cruise control....please

As said, be thankful you have it at all. The base spec 86 in other markets doesn't.

I'm completely comfortable with it, though, because it's identical to the system in my old tC. Same stalk, same placement, same controls.

I'm with the rest of the previous Toyota/Scion owners in that I'm used to the location and operation after driving my Tacoma for a number of years.

This is more of just a cross-platform gripe as many manufacturers are similar to Toyota, but I wish the physical stalk operation was more like my old Audi - you moved the cruise stalk forward/backward to turn on/off cruise (think how you turn on your brights). Cruise was ALWAYS on allowing me to simply hit the set button and be cruising. Having to press the button then, kick it down to set just bugs my mind!

College beat a manufacturing/operational mindset in to me in terms of eliminating unnecessary procedures. I'm sure someone will come out and say there's some safety concern with it or something, but whatever...as others have said, lucky we have it at all!!!

Oh wait, I don't have mine yet. That's the way all other Toyotas work, anyway.

Yeah I wish it worked that well. But it doesn't. Pushing up or down briefly doesn't change the speed in 1 mph increments on my car. In fact my car's cruise control looooooves to creep up 1-2 mph when I'm not looking. I'm having the dealership look into it because that's unacceptable IMO.

And I must say I'm a bit surprised to hear people say they never use it or WILL never use it. Does your foot never get tired after cruising 300+ miles on the interstate? Mine sure does.

This has to be a Toyota thing...I never experienced it until I got my Tacoma and then noticed it in my friends Camry and read the same complaints on the TacomaWorld forums. It's especially evident when going up hills...the cruise system seems to over-compensate a bit and is then majorly slow to react when the incline begins to flatten out. I consistently ended up 5-7mph over my set cruise point when going up hills at highway speeds. My '99 Civic SI, '02 Audi A4, and '08 Civic SI sedan never did this.

Hoenstly I haven't noticed a problem, slight flick of the wrist.

Buttons become cumbersome when you start racing or driving hard. Do you want to be racing and the stereo pops on and gets louder? Accidentally set the cruise in a tight turn? The simplified wheel prevents you from worrying about a swap for basic events, the whole marketing schema behind this car is that it's ready to track right away. *2 cents*

I like the existing cruise very intuitive. I mebbe biased though as my last 2 cars had the exact same thing, same stalk same place etc. (Echo and a Yaris)
