Not sure yet whether to pre order the BRZ Defently although I would really love the STi style concept ,not too worried about price ,just that I tend to keep my cars a long time and want the exact spec
Waited a year for my green classic wagon ,same for the wrxd ,both which I will keep for many years The BRZ is my mid life treat to my self was always going to treat myself to a porsche when I reached the magic 50 but this car ticks all my boxes ,I love the marque and have many friends in the Subaru community Decisions decisions When I see one in the showroom. Or brochure and he can put gold wheel and rear wing on it I guess I will crumble to the Salesmans patter |

I called my Scion dealer yesterday and the guy told me I could put down a deposit for "right of first refusal". Meaning, they are going to order whatever they want, and if I don't like the color and/or equipment I have dibs on the next one...and the next one...and the next one...until they order one I like. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money to wait until they happen to order the one I want. I'll go to another dealer.
On that note, I went and got 1st dibbs on a BRZ at my Subie dealer. They hadn't had anybody inquire yet. Neither had the Scion dealer. |

Yes but alot of those cars, don't have a production version. BRZ has a Production version. I think they'll be an Sti version, It just doesn't make sense to show the concept in LA spend all that money just for it to be showed up in Tokyo in a month by it's production version. Wait.. I just summarized what did happen huh? well.. I guess Sti variant is 50/50 at this point. I don't see why they didn't show the STi in Japan too. A mystery is afoot!

For the one wondering how pre-order work and why I did it:
Really want it when it release. My first cars were 2 AE86 coupe and since then I've always reseach something simillar without having a 20+ year car. How the dealer work, they will do a credit check of the aproximate price of the car. I've choose the white color, and because I'm the first one to pre-order it, the first one they will get will be... well white. I don't even need to made a deposit! If, for whatever reason I don't want it, they scrap the contract and that it's. And for the " I never buy a car it's first year of production "... I work at a Chrysler dealer and new generation of car don't have trouble and if they have, often it's like a trim missing or stupid thing like that. So I'm really not worry and anyway if it have a problem, it's covered by the waranty. I really don't worry about this move, I REALLY want this car.

I know most people feel it's safe (and it is) because everything is refundable, but there is no telling how long that wait time is... We don't even have a release date yet... Not only that but your money is not making interest while sitting in Toyota's piggy bank...
The interest is a small deal, but more to the point, there is nothing solidified yet, and once again we're lucky we're talking Scion because in most cases, you just lost all your haggle room... Pre orders make it hard for people to haggle right off the bat too so the premium of the car will stay high (in case of the BRZ) until the list dwindles down... No chance for anyone else to get a good price for a while... However, I personally never even haggle or shop when I buy Toyota... I just go Google the local dealers all up, email them all the same message of exactly the options I want, color, transmission, etc... Then tell them to give me the out door price including tax and destination charge... I also demand my vehicle have no more than 10 miles on the odo... I walk into the dealer with the lowest bid, buy my car... Wait... Car comes in, I take a pic of my odo because it's awesome and never will be again... Drive with a smile ![]() Pre orders don't hurt, I just don't see the need for it, not here to convince anyone tho cause I see why people do it, they're already dead set on it... I just don't want to deal with anything monetary until I know what I'm getting and I've driven it first... Cars are not something you get a 30 day return policy on... |

Won't be in the market when it comes out in April, but if I were, I'd test drive it first. I'd also have to sit and compare between the BRZ and FR-S and see what each is really worth to me.
Though the logic of preordering with 100% refund doesn't really make sense to me, in I way I think it's kind of cool because dealers and maybe Toyota/Subaru themselves are getting preliminary measures of interest.

It doesn't hurt to pre-order if the deposit is refundable. When it's out, test drive it or have a change of heart for whatever reason and still get your money back. Better to call dibs w/ the option to back out than being SOL on a wait list.

I've got to wait until the lease expires on my MX-5, in 18 months, so I won't be ordering for another year.
I work in the automotive industry and have been involved in the launch of quite a few new models now and there are usually a lot of problems with the first batch of production cars, which can end up sitting around the factory for months waiting to be reworked. |

I'm on two waiting lists for the BRZ, but I'm not putting a deposit down until there's a price and I can select options, then the dealership will get some of my money to hold my spot.
