Smaller displacement sport bikes are plentiful - everywhere but the U.S.
Don't know why we can't get past the "MOAR POWAH! 'MURICA" mindset.

Was watching RU Faster than a Redneck last night.
Got their asses handed to them by a Nissan. What a bunch of whiny baby sore losers.
One of their drivers even gave one of the import drivers a cheap shot to the face on camera.

Anyway, small displacement doesn't equal less fun. i.e. the 86.

Thanks for the replies, guys! They are very useful.

So, no supersports past 250. I really like the ninja 650r (and the sv650 as wel), and think that should be a perfect starter bike for me.

Thanks again. Really helped me out with my decision. Going into this, I was orginally looking at the gsxr 600 - that bike is faster than some liter bikes! I didn't even realize how fast those things are. I come from the car world, where 4 cylinder = slow and safe, which doesn't seem to be so much the case in bike land of course .

Yep, same reason I love the FR-S.

LOL. Liter bikes have as much hp as the 86! ..and only weigh 400 lbs!

I meant the relation of sizes of the bike engines...

For example, the gsxr 600 is faster than the ninja 650r. Its also faster than plenty of other 1000cc bikes it seems (from some quick research).

Kind of confusing.

Think my 1200 is 82hp (at the crank)... but it looks cool, brembos, Single sided swing arm, marchesini wheels, passenger seat cover, braided brake lines (all factory stuff) and dirt cheap to insure.

I'll add a vote for the sv650, one nice little bonus with it, because its a twin it will also be cheaper to insure.

Stay away from pretty much anything 600cc+ with 4 cylinders and a lot of plastic.

Dat plastic is expensive...800 bucks for the front cowl....no light, nothing.

My CBR is in like 1000 pieces still, but I got the throttle cables, air filter, the front harness in yesterday, can put it back together mostly Migh tbe able to ride this weekend!

Question for the garage mechanics.....or anybody that has owned a CBR 600....how much blowby is OK? I took apart the intake and have some oil in there, and the throttle bodies were pretty dark. Didnt have any blue smoke but still, dont want it to be something else I have to take the bike apart for >_<

Well after 3 years and 17,000 miles on my ninja 250r I now have this:

Brand new 2013 Triumph Street Triple R. Loving it so far that triumph triple is one amazing engine. Got it 3 weeks ago already at 1000 miles. Now that its all broken in time to hit up the track so I can see what its really all about haha.

To add my thoughts about the 250. I really enjoyed it, it was a great bike and I did a lot with it; canyon riding, touring about, riding on the highway, trackdays (track days are very fun on the 250 especially when you blow by big bikes haha). I wanted a different kind of bike so I really focused in on the the Triumph. The 250 is a great bike to start out on and is very forgiving and really easy to ride. It did everything I needed it too and for the most part it was powerful enough. Of course there were times when more power would have been nice.I'd also put a vote in for an SV650, very great all around bike. Would have got one if there were any good ones left out here, but people are holding on to them.

Street Triple aRrrrrrrrr. Like a pirate.

Congrats amigo. What a unique style! Most makers go from a twin to an inline four, not many do the triple right?

Hope you have many safe happy miles with it!
