The requirements for getting a license are ridiculous these days. The driving education system is so broken, it's doing more harm than good.
When they're giving 14 year olds a learning license, and giving 16 year olds their full license, something is clearly wrong.
I have friends that have gotten into 5 or 6 accidents within two years of getting their license and they're still allowed to be on the road!
I'm 19 now, and honestly, I don't trust anyone's driving other than my own. I have yet to even come close to being in an accident. I've never even been pulled over for anything, gotten a speeding ticket, or anything like that. I haven't even put a scratch on any car I've driven.
I WISH the system would require drivers to learn how to drive a stick shift here in Canada and the US like the REST OF THE WORLD does. It's not just about learning to drive a car with an increasingly rare type of transmission, but it forces you to pay more attention to the road.
I wish they would make me take a test every year to see if I should be allowed to drive or not. Vehicle registration renewals are annual, so why shouldn't license renewals be annual too?
The roads would be a LOT safer if EVERYONE was required to pass a test every year.
For the people complaining that it's a good thing it's not required, is it really so hard to take a half an hour or so driving exam once a year?

I feel alot anger in this post.

Let me tell you this. I'm living in a country where you get your learning licence with 18, after passing an theoretical Test and after passing a "emergency medic" exam so you could help injured people in an accident. After that you take 10-30 hours with an certified driving instructor, and take about 1h hour drive with another instructor of the State to show them you know how to drive. We mostly have manual cars over here, so most of the ppl do their licence on a manual (if you do it on an auto, you are not allowed to drive a manual car). If you pass this exam, you get your licence on a "test" base for the next 3 years. In those 3 years, you have to visit another 2 full days of driving training (driving on wet roads etc) and if you break any law you're loosing your licence and can start all over again.

to my point now. I'd say we have a quiet hard way to get to our drivers licence. And we have more manual than automatic cars aswell. Does it change things over here? no. You still have the idiots that are driving on your side of the lane, cant park, hitting your car and just take off, hell, we even had ppl driving their cars into a lake because they couldnt differ from 1st and reverse gear.

The problem is really that those ppl do not care about driving. they also dont care about other ppl on the road, they dont care about other's cars, or in general, they dont care for anything but themselfes. Respect, tolerance all those things are no longer in their minds. And why is this? Because our society does no longer value respect and caring for other ppl. Its all about yourself, about money, and fuck the world.

Or in short, what you see on the streets is just a mirror of our society. No training, no tests, no fines and no laws will change this.

To OP, sorry to see what happened to your BRZ. Hope it's going to be fixed soon

Ah totally forgot to update sorry guys. I got my BRZ back about two weeks ago and it looks pretty new. Maybe I'm being paranoid or something but my nav system/screen has been f'ingg up a lot. It keeps freezing and my ipod connection is weird. Out of nowhere the songs get all static-y and the control buttons keep f'ing up. Other than that everything seems fine. I'm currently filing a diminished value claim thru their insurance but its really hard bc insurance are all scammers. The total damage was around 10k btw

Update: Upon further investigation it has been found that the "70ish year old man" had given the excuse that he had used the wrong pedal when, in fact, he intentionally rear ended the OP because "the OP had violently cut him off".
Evidently, the elderly person has had similar psychotic experiences and has recently been returned to the psychiatric hospital from where he had escaped. Unfortunately, he is a person of minimal financial assets and several plaintiffs have had unsuccessful results upon suing him. As well, the said hospital has just declared bankruptcy.

Then I guess the best thing to do would be to get your license taken away even if you get in a SINGLE accident that is your fault. Eliminating those drivers that don't respect the safety of others, and aren't fit to drive in general will be better for everyone.
