Anyone with a tune know if I should bother flashing the stock tune before I go into the dealership for inspection?

I do it, just incase. Worst case scenario I'm wasting 10 minutes of my time.

Thank you. The process isn't a big deal, it's the 30 miles of dead zone in the throttle while the ECU relearns is what annoys me.

Some people at my dealership already know I have a tune but I like to keep the service manager from learning too much

I was wondering the same thing. Mine is just for a oil change (Its free or I would do it myself) but I'm on e85 and would have to switch back to pump gas. Any reason they would do anything with the ecu like try and flash the updated stock ROM. Would they even be able to override the ecutek tune? I know that the dealership can't see if it has been flashed because ecutek uses their own flash count I just don't want them to override it with a stock ROM with e85 in the tank.

I hate that dead zone with a fiery passion! It's always seemed like much longer than 30 miles for me to get rid of it too. Last time was around 100 miles and 3 days. It wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't have so may hill starts during that time. Throttle control is critical at those times!

It's an oil change, stop being paranoid!

Give me a flex fuel kit and a few e85 stations in the area and I'll never go back to stock much less take my car to a dealer for anything short of a catastrophe

that would depend where and how everything is wired up.

i'm assuming there is a sensor to be inserted in the fuel line, or elsewhere... and some additional wires (in addition to ecu jumpers)

No. Even if they plug into the ECU they wont know it's tuned.

I read something in another thread that leads me to believe that the ECU learning the voltages of YOUR throttle pedal. These things can vary a little. The guy (I'd post credit if I remembered who it was) posted that Perrin told him to turn the ignition to on (engine off) and push the throttle to the floor about 20 times. Switch the ignition off, back on, and push the throttle to the floor another 20 times. After that you should be good to go.

I have no idea if that's real at all, but it's a viable theory for me, given how little I know about what's going on in the ECU.

however i seem to hear some knock sensor sound around 3000 - 4000rpm. is it normal or is it the DI sound? i don't think i heard this before flashing.......

would data logeging capture this? ambient temp was around 22 degrees C (around 72 degrees F), water and engine oil temp were warm and normal.

thanks.

When I flashed to this ver. tune the cams sounded crazy and I was worried as well. But since moving to E85 I have not heard the angry cams again.

So far I am using United. They have 100 octane.

Everyone keeps saying this and it isn't true.

I'm hoping you mean at the inspection level (dtc check etc.) it's not seen. Subaru tried to update my ECU without me saying anything and one of the techs gave me a stern talkin' to because he found that tune instantly.

Each eeprom rewrite marks no. of writing on it. This is a Regulation issued in each emission control set both in Europe (from Euro4 emission directives) and USA. Only removing eeprom and flashing it outside board doesn't discover rewriting and counter id.
Anyway, a Professional can discover ECU re-mapping with analysis of what is recorded on self-learning memory area of ECU or Car Body Computer...i.g. no. of rpm out of range, fuel consumption and other things.
In Europe i.g. BMW diagnostic tools are connected to central HQ in Munich to verify re-writing and some parameters. If found any mods, the car enters in a void (full!!) warranty status. So the same for Fiat cars.
In add..mileage or time elapsed from first start of car is recorded inside some units (Airbag, ESP control, traction system and so on).
