Well, I've seen this work on a buddy's 86 last week at a local meet. No CEL. @OrbitalEllipses covered everything else. You can search NASIOC for all that mess.

In our world we get a lot customers concerned with a crank pulley being too light and causing misfires. This happens sometimes when customers install a lightweight flywheel and a light weight crank pulley. We purposely didn't make it as light as possible to help control this from happening.

During our design phase, we took this into consideration and then secondly is looks. The super lightweight version of our pulley looked kind of weird and plain. Even though we got the weight down to .888lbs, it just didn't look the way we wanted it to.

Here is a picture of it Jeff gave me. So with both those things in mind we came up with the version you see now. This super light weight pulley is something we have thought about offering. If there was enough demand its for sure something we could offer. But the question then becomes, is it worth the potential of a misfire code with a lightweight flywheel installed?

Plus if weight is a concern we have a few other rotating assembly parts about to hit the market!

I give you guys props for having the balls to put a T6061 pulley on your car. That grade aluminum is best for decoration purposes only.

Unfortunately in this industry peopl think T6061 is good when it reality its the cheapest and easiest to machine material around.

Id like to see someone come out with a T2024 pulley, then I will buy one.

While I understand you might like to only install the absolute best part in your car, the important thing here is that T6061 is adequate for the application and several thousands of Subaru owners over around 10 years nod their head in agreement.

Have we actually seen some analysis done on the materials itself?

or have they all just been done in solidworks/CAD then CNC'd using whatever has worked/cheapest in the past?

Honestly don't know, I am just going by the long term testing of Subaru's running them for around 10 years and around 200K miles with no issues.

ahh yeap, I get that.

I think he was basically saying that it could be better. Surely 10 years is enough to take the next step of improvements?

I guess it depends on how much more money is it and how much people is willing to pay for it..

T6061 has proven to be completely functional (meaning it sheds the most weight possible and has proven to be reliable), so how much is anyone willing to spend for pricier material X which does exactly the same as material Y which is much cheaper.

Are you trolling?
What do you base those statements upon?

Indeed, only thing is that there is no pricing yet. Maybe guys like subinate, hancha, grimspeed guy can chime in on the associated costs.

I know T7075 will be more expensive in material as well as tooling due to hardness and experiences so far with machine shops for my hobby, but the estimated cost isn't my forte since I am not in that industry.. Plus it is mates rates so it doesn't reflect manufacturing costs for a commercial product..

EDIT:Quote Fail...

It isn't a need, just exploring options of other materials.

I am pretty happy with my GoFastBits 3 piece pulley set. As far as pulleys being sleeper..... They really aren't noticeable regardless of the design so long as they are black. I don't think you could go wrong with any that are offered by the various manufactures. Only real reason I went with GFB was because I wanted more than the crank pulley by itself and GFB typically makes really nice pieces.
