Question about our cars rolling speed
Everyday I browse this forum I feel like I read about a hundred this car is so slow threads. Now I'm assuming most of the people who are posting are complaining about the sluggishness of this cars 0-60 (which if you bought this car for that just lol) but I was wondering how people felt about this cars rolling speed. I find that if I'm in the right rpm range when I'm cruising I feel pretty confident about how quick this car is. To be perfectly honest if someone tries something silly and I'm above the torque dip it's usually no contest. Am I wrong here or do most of you feel that way too? Sorry if there's a bunch of typos I'm on my phone eating a lunch.

It does a good job of maintaining momentum. I keep reading about how aerodynamic it is with such a low drag coefficient which would help at higher speeds for sure.

It can be a little surprising. The fact that this car does way pretty much nothing helps quite a bit. Was on the interstate when a late 90's z28 passed me followed behind a new mustang. I went to 5th and caught up and passed the mustang and was able to keep pace with the z28. Redlined 5th and shifted to sixth. Looked down and saw 128mph and decided to let him go. When you are actually driving the car it is a lot of fun. If you want a car to race from light to light buy something else because that is not driving.

its not really that low. i think its just a marketing thing. econo cars are designed with low cd in mind. sports cars usually have higher figures because they generate downforce. the cd of this car is similar to that of the mazda3 and almost as low as a lexus ls430. my guess would be that its geared appropriately for the amount of tq the car has.

True story, no lie, a sport motorcycle, above torque dip starting somewhere around 50-60mph, we hammered it, he never passed me, last check saw 123mph. His defense it was little gusty and I am sure scary on a bike. So I find myself wondering, do I really need that twin screw supercharger....

151 Torque at 6400 RPM. Also 80% of that is available at 3500. which is only 120 at 3400+. To actually Enjoy the car for what it is, you will have to be always in the range of 6400-7500 RPM. Torque is what Move your car up to speed. HP is what determine Max Speed. |

This being my first sports car, I think it is quick enough for me. If your in the right gear it seems to do ok. I didn't really buy this car for speed. If i wanted to go faster I would've gotten a WRX or something.

The FRS and BRZ have quite a good drag coefficient, which competes with high-end cars like Porsche, for example, which many might not expect.
The drag coefficient is used to quantify the drag or resistance of an object in a fluid environment such as air or water. A lower drag coefficient indicates the object will have less aerodynamic drag. The drag coefficient is always associated with a particular surface area." Examples: FRS drag coefficient = 0.27 Koenigsegg Agera (R) = 0.33 to 0.37 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class = 0.23 Audi A4 = 0.29 Nissan GT-R = 0.26 Pagani Huayra= 0.31 Porsche 911 GT2= 0.32 Last edited by forzajuve; 05-01-2013 at 03:22 PM. |

No way in hell you'll even come close to hanging with a supersport type bike (600cc). No way, no how. Must've been a Ninja 250 or something similar with a really shitty rider. Trust me. I've been riding for over 15 years. Most motorcycles would flat out put this car to shame when acceleration is a contest. Let's not kid ourselves. |

This. When I had my 250 a few years back, I looked to see how fast it could get to 60. Fastest time I ever saw was done by GPS and was right at 6 seconds. They only get to like 115 or so too. Most modern sport bikes, even with amateur riders, can easily get sub 5 seconds 0-60. I've seen as low as 3 seconds even though. For instance, I have a '12 zx6 and first gear tops out at 84mph. Top speed is around 170. The FRS will come nowhere close to supersports.

I do not mind the power it has at moment, I 100% knew what I was getting into before purchasing the car. It amuses me the people who complain, IMO they should have just bought a different car? I plan on putting a supercharger on it, either when "Toyota makes one" or I am off warranty and honestly it is NO PANIC.
