I have downloaded the Bluetooth quick light manager you suggested. Don't have a Bluetooth dongle so that may be the issue.

Nearly there now thanks guys. Got a BT dongle and manage to turn BT on using the Bluetooth quick lite app. It found the OB-LINK.

Just having trouble getting it to pair. Not sure it is compatible. If I can see the device and it is trying to pair will it be compatible and I have another issue.

Also, if I attach the BT dongle to my USB hub it doesn't work. I have to unplug the hub. Is this usual or do I need a different hub?

So close...

Update: with the Bluetooth dongle connected I can see and try and pair with the OB-LINK but get the message "paired but not connected".

Any ideas?

Can you enter the pairing code?
I also read that sometimes it needs a couple of restarts and that then there is a succesfully connection?
Once the connection is made, it then should connect without problems in the future.

Also try to avoid funky names for the BT devices, apparently it doesn't like symbols etc in the name...

I don't have a unit, so I am only trying to help by the info I read about all this...

Thanks for the suggestions. I have restarted a million times. It asks for the pairing code that the OB-LINK uses 7181 and pairs but comes up with the "paired but not connected".

You're correct about the android and symbols. Wouldn't connect to my iPhone as had an apostrophe in the name.

Thanks @krikke that may be it. @2forme pointed out a list of compatable ones here http://hardware4linux.info/module/btusb/

I can't find any of them for sale anywhere. I have got two others on their way to me but they aren't on the list. Be helpful if they were on eBay and shipped to NZ but can't find them.

Update: DX.com have heaps of them here but not sure what would be compatible. Free shipping to NZ. @2forme or @Narcoden do you know if any of these would be compatible and would work in the hub with wifi and 3G dongles http://dx.com/s/Bluetooth+USB

Be great to find the "perfect" 4 way USB hub. Again, a massive range here

Ordered this model: ELM327

Mini size with an on/off button (so no battery draining) and comes with a bluetooth dongle.

Will dll the Torque app for my Android smartphone and use this until I have ordered an Android double din. (can't wait for the Android car pc as this will take a few weeks in shipping and I need to read out the car before next Friday as it will get a new exhaust and a remap. (Might be useful to clear some engine warnings if they pop up after fitment of the new exhaust).

So my Android car pc 'project' has officially started...

I'm using a "super mini ELM327". Tiny translucent one - I'm leaving it plugged in and there are no battery drainage issues at all. It's probably using less power than a vehicle tracking device.

I think my issue is an incompatible BT dongle so I've now ordered the same dongle and USB hub that @Narcoden is using successfully. That way that compatibility issue is eliminated as an issue.

I am currently trying to get carscope working with my OB-LINK. If it still won't work with the new dongle then I also have a replacement ELM327 on its way to try torque instead.

Fingers crossed as I'm so close. I really like the head unit but want the gauges on it!

If it all works I might see about getting the green LEDs changed to orange by someone.

Cool, good luck. Give btautopair a try, I'm not using the same head unit anymore but that is the app that solved my problems.
