Did I really spend the last 30 minutes reading every persons reply from 3-19? Jesus lol....

If there is something I have come to find reading what everyone has to say, its just all a matter of what you prefer.

I love old Toyota cars, I own quite a bit of them, and maybe that is why I love the Scion one more? It is simple and straight to the point, it does its job and i'm happy with that. For others however this is also not the case, I have a friend who won't drive anything older then 6 years old, why? because he doesn't like old shit and that is totally fine too.

Everyone is passionate about something, and as far as cars are concerned I will always be a Toyota guy (Scion, Lexus, Toyota). And i'm sure there are a lot here who are Subaru guys (and gals). Toyota won't make everyone happy, and neither can Subaru and Scion.

In defense of Toyota and Subaru, they did offer us something they didn't have to. And that is this car, Yes you can argue that we still have to pay for it, but if Toyota really wanted to, they didn't have to. For a good number of people this doesn't mean a rats ass, but for me at least I can respect the fact that they had good intentions when creating this car. Did it meet everyone's expectations? Of course not, but for those that it did, whoever manufacturer they decide to go with, we have a car that for a lot of us will bring us a lot of joy at least in a driving sense.

To those who don't like anything about it, great, like a lot said its time to look for another car that will meet your expectations. For everyone else, cheers we finally got a car that we have been looking for.

/end rant

Agreed. Toyota's goal was to make a sports car that is fun, reliable, and affordable, which is very hard to find nowadays. Honestly, if you're looking for something with seat warmers, push to start, and other luxury based items, go grab a Lexus.

Well, I do think there are those of us who wants the cake and eat it too.
I like heated seats, push start and Climate control, and its not like they have to hack up the car to design and build them as they already offered somewhere else.

I like the Toyota's styling and the equipment of the 86, plain and simple.

What is wrong with offering the options. You get the low price and I get the stuff. Won't it be better?

Ps. I think "Automatic Climate Control" is just a fancy way of saying "thermostat", so that the car company can charge more money. I recently bought 2 for my home, with full LCD touch screen control and did not cost me more then $50 for both.

Yes, we are passionate, especially those of us that have dealt with Scion corporate directly with the car shows, track days, and special events. I bought a tC in April 2006, in December of that year Scion sent me to Miami and put me up in an ocean-view suite for 2 days for the release of the xD and 2nd gen xB release. Originally, all I wanted was a low-cost, practical, fun-to-drive car while I was saving for a Corvette, but I got much more in return. That was the true intention of Scion: introduce people to and build brand loyalty for the Toyota-family brands through customization and social events... and for me and many others it has worked. Granted, the goal of Scion was to move people from entry-level to mainstream (Toyota) and then to up-market (Lexus) as their customers matured, but unfortunately, unless you have a family, there was nothing for you if you wanted something sporty with two doors.

I will admit I'm outside of Scion's age demographic, well above it's price range, and according to Toyota's marketing goals, I should be buying a Lexus IS-F rather than another Scion. However, due to marketing decisions made in the U.S. and Japan, here I am. I know what the brand is, I know what they are trying to accomplish, I know why they have equipped their version of the 86 the way they have... that has nothing to do with dedication or passion for the brand, it's experience and tempered expectations based on the marketing nameplate; that is why I was able to accurately predict how the FR-S would be equipped.

To me, it doesn't matter what badge is on the 86 whether it be Scion, Toyota, or Lexus, I was going to buy this car regardless of how it was equipped, and I think a majority of the people showing early interest in this car will too. The FR-S is not going to satisfy everyone and it's not going to be directly marketed to everyone, just a specific target group which doesn't include current drivers of mainstream and up market RWD/AWD cars; Toyota is relying on customers shopping or currently driving FWD (i.e. less expensive) entry-level performance cars to get them ready for what may come in the future... just like the Corolla which led to the Celica and Supra, so shall the FR-S.

IDK, I think they kind of cheaped out on the interior. The first gen Scion tC had nicer HVAC than his car for example and cost $16.5K, I know I had one. I think the cheapening is a recent trend with the Scion brand though not a reflection of the 86. All their first gen cars were nicer built than the second gen iterations. Even my wife, not a car person, commented on how cheap feeling the latest Scion cars are compared to the old ones at the last auto show.

Oh well, I won't be able to buy one anyway. I've been waiting since 2009, but my DD finally died and I had to replace it just weeks ago...all this info coming out was almost too much to take Ended up with a MS3 instead.

Having more available options means higher manufacturing costs (assembly, channel sales for parts, quality control, etc). Those costs, even at scale, get translated to a higher cost for the car itself, even for base models. This in turn would make producing an affordable sports car even more difficult.

I really hope they do things differently in Detroit. I think what sparked so much anger in this debut was the fact that they only showed the base model and mentioned nothing about what kind of options you can get with the car. This leads consumers into thinking there won't be an option to make it look like the JDM counter part.

This was the FR-S' world debut though, so it's understandable for them show a car that's completely different from the other 2. And I guess. To emphasize how it's going to be affordable and tunable, they only put a stripped down and a GReddy lightly tuned version.
