Yup, the initial version wasn't living up to the power claims, so they designed a new compressor that flows much better. You want version 2, not version 1.

Woah woah woah hold on a second 2forme. That is a completely false statement. The H67BC system was making every bit of power that we claimed it would. However, when going into this project, we did not know that more than 5-6psi was safe on these engines. We had already been designing a higher output setup for non-stock cars, anticipating the need for it down the road. When it came about that more boost could be safe on a stock engine, we accelerated plans and released the higher output compressor. To avoid me typing everything over again, I will quote myself from the thread on the subject.

In keeping with our commitment to design and engineer the best, most reliable supercharging systems in the world, and taking into account the 12.5:1 compression ratio of the FA20 engine, we initially designed the FR-S/BRZ systems to deliver 5-6psi of boost and deliver a safe and exciting boosted experience for our customers that was CARB E.O. compliant. Following months of testing at our facility, along with a select number of our strategic tuning partners in the field, we have determined that an upgraded Vortech system set at 9psi on the FA20 engine can be equally as reliable and up to the standards you have come to expect from Vortech. Therefore, all Vortech systems for the FR-S/BRZ will now include the upgraded V-3 H67B compressor set at 9psi, with the capability of supporting 13+ psi for those interested in pushing the envelope outside of E.O. compliance. We have applied and are proceeding through the E.O. process as originally planned, at the 9psi H67B output level. We are confident this adaptation will deliver even more of the exceptional performance you want and expect from Vortech Superchargers.

Brian, based on several third party Dynos posted on this site from several different Vortech owners (and some other Dynos not posted on the site from Vortech owners), it was NOT living up to the HP claims.

Please provide me with the horsepower claim that was not lived up to that you are referring to. Since our official numbers were never released until the complete systems were released with the H67B, there were no numbers to "not live up to". All systems sold before then were tuner kits, which required tuning to be provided from a 3rd party. All stated compressor capability of the H67BC and H67B have been true and proven. In fact, the only power numbers posted up at all in the first few weeks/months were from Perrin, and all of those were with the H67BC in question. I'll be the first to admit that some people may not have been blown away by the lower output setups, but please don't get the facts twisted. We have never not delivered on a power claim.

I am sorry, this was a conversation a long time ago and I don't know exactly in what thread it was, but I did read this several times (numbers not living up to expectations).

@2forme will know for sure because he was right in the middle of it (I believe with Perrin).

(I could be wrong and I'm opened to being corrected, but that is what I remember).

What power number did Vortech claim the old compressor would make?

I don't think Vortech ever claimed any numbers, I do remember reading threads about how it felt lackluster but still had plenty of power... but I think that was because there was no "boost" like when a turbo spools up, just a linear power increase. So basically it felt slow but the user said he would check his speed and he would be going 90 but it just felt like it was going slower.

Either way, they released the upgraded compressor and its getting some nice numbers for all the bench racers
