Eh its not that bad of an area like people are making it sound. Its not south phoenix... My area is far worse and i sleep like a baby. I have a helicopter over my house at least 3-4 times a week. Its not uncommon to hear one every night, and sometimes 2-3 times in a day under my roof. lol I also have armed robberies at the gas station in front of my house at least once a month and quite a bit of homeless traffic. When i have to peak my head into the office in the early am I always have at least one homeless guy in my alley in the morning.

That area is really not that bad in comparison. If its short notice meh go for it, if you have a short lease even better. Moving to phoenix is pretty scattered in the class of an area. It goes up and down quite a bit once you go 4-5 houses down the street. You will get million dollar homes next to neighborhoods that don't have a combined value of a million dollars. When i first moved here i had a really rough time trying to find an area to live in. I worked out of my home so i really didn't have to worry about how far to drive from work and i ended up in a place in NE mesa which was low crime & quiet. However shortly after that i realized how much i preferred living near the center of the valley and actually being near things. lol

to add to that; sure Guadalupe sucks but its seriously like a 2 mile by 1 mile area... if that! If you blink while driving through you will miss it (however this is unlikely since the speed limit is so damn low!!!).

I at one point was actually looking at an apartment in that area but the staff made me wait 45 minutes before talking to me so i stood up and said FUCK IT. There is a highway entrance fairly close, and plenty of shopping areas etc within close range.

Only living in AZ for a year, I can add. The valley is just that way everywhere. I have lived in Chandler and Peoria. You go down one block and it looks like the roughest part of town, you take a right at the next street, everything looks high class. It's pretty much that way everywhere. I would say when it comes to finding a place down here, it really depends on where you work. Traffic here SUCKS. I mean down right blows donkey balls. If you have a peak hour job here, and you use any of the freeways, be prepared. When I switched jobs I took this in account as it took me an hour each way to get to work, now it's way better. Just FYI...

I already plan to do public transportation. Most likely the light rail if at all possible. I mean I do live in Milwaukee so I am not scared of the homeless or anything like that. I love the city so extra sounds do not bother me at all and I am only 23 so recently graduated from college I am used to the whole loud college parties near by me. I lived on UW Milwaukees campus for 5 years lol.

The nice thing is if i get in a good habit of taking public transportation my cars milage is going to stay way down and leave me with more money for parts

Everyone is correct. You find one nice neighborhood then next door it can be a war zone.

It also really depends on what you consider bad. There isn't a single place in Phoenix that I wouldn't walk threw at night. But I'm from Detroit so the worst in Phoenix is still a step up from the rough areas of Detroit.

Hah damn... i didn't realize phoenix was that much worse. However it is a larger area and more densely populated but the numbers are roughly 10x as high.

I used to work / bunk in south central LA. After that i never felt that uncomfortable in Phoenix again. There are only a handfull of areas in phoenix that i wouldn't walk in the middle of the night. And most of them don't have city supplied lighting and are very dark and gloomy area's on the edges of town.
