Pioneer AVIC radio mod - rocked my world!

So, while everyone is going on about springs this, tires that, and turbo whoa, I think I just made the most significant mod I'd ever done..... I UPGRADED MY RADIO VOLUME CONTROL KNOB!!!!

I don't know about you guys, but I found that the volume control dial on the Canadian BRZ radio is just too small to adjust easily.... So I bought a bigger knob... and my life has been changed!

If you're having the same problem, check out this link....

http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/...re-finally-in/

this is not my actual radio, but it looks exactly the same....

You can also get a silver one if you want....

I tugged on the volume control knob gently to see if it easily comes off. It doesn't (I didn't want to pull too hard). Do you just need to use a bit of force or do you have to do anything extra in order to remove it? I am assuming the new one just goes on the exact opposite way the old one comes off.

I don't have the new part yet but I am definitely interested. I hate having to be careful when controlling the volume.

Have you guys done any other mods? I haven't yet other than getting a clear bra on the car. I'd like to get my antenna switched out though at some point.

Whoops, just read the info from the link above and answered my own questions about it. My bad!

Questions about the other mods still stands though.

Only other mod I have is the one to silence the sound pipe....

And the new knob doesn't replace the old knob... the piece you get covers the old knob...but the guy recommends that you remove the old knob because it takes quite a bit of pressing to get it on and he doesn't want to be liable for any damage from pressing it on....

That is actually a slightly different model/firmware, so not all options are available to Canadians. Don't forget, the source bar on the side also scrolls (touch and drag) which also reveals more sources.

Just FYI, the knobs are still available and this was definitely the best $35 (CAD) dollars I have ever spent on an upgrade. The expletive-laden tirades against this deck are over.

Here are my before/after pix of the 10 second upgrade.

I need this in my life.

I FUCKING HATE that tiny little volume knob. Like seriously who thought that was a good idea?! It's too small to even TRY to use while driving, sometimes even missing completely and hitting a button on the screen that changes inputs.

But even while STOPPED it's frustrating how much of a pain in the ass it is to adjust. With gloves on? Don't even bother!

I'll be ordering this for sure!

PS that being said, if anyone local wants to go in on this together, that'd be awesome, as I don't have PayPal. I'll give you the cash.

haha..wow, this thread just came back from the dead.

Long-term test update: Knob gets REALLY loose in the winter, like won't turn the stock knob and falls off super easy. Even in the summer now, it doesn't hold onto the stock knob as well as when new.

Fix - gonna try wrapping the stock knob in some tape to see how that works. If that fail, just gonna glue it down.

OK, even WITH the new knob, it's hard....not gonna lie, I still hit the source buttons sometimes. I've found that by reflex now, I rest my last three fingers at the base of the vents to turn the knob so that I have some control.
