@Huehuecoyotl
To bad I missed out on getting a ride today I will definitely be seeing you next Sunday. Glad I could at least take you on the autoX course it is very competitive and as our season closer everyone was a little on edge being there last chance to move up into a trophy spot so sorry we couldn't get you out there. I'm really happy the supercharger is working great can't wait to get ride in it. Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2 |

It really was just a curiosity in my part, because I thought the main difference between BPV and BOV is that BOV can VTA while BPV is strictly 100% recirc. I think I might be lost in semantics. A BPV is basically a BOV that recircs. 100% .

min session = . Everything on Gem's car, simply put, just worked. The way it should have. No lag where it was needed (other than coming out of a left turn, which I believe is the fuel pump, but that is up for testing), shifting, tires, brakes, suspension, everything. I really don't know what could have been better. Quote of the day was: "Not a bad day when the only thing that passes you are a worked ZR1 Vette and a full on racing truck." We were passing things left and right and Mook is in div 4 in the NASA circuit so it wasn't petty driving. Quote:
And lastly I will just throw this out there, I am completely sold on the Vortech. I have ridden in one of the turboed FRS's two days before I ever rode with Gem and I will say the power that you get with the Vortech just works with the track. It was made to deliver on the track. I have ALWAYS wanted a turbo but now I have to completely reevaluate this choice. I really do believe that depending on what you are going to do with the car dictates what boost method you go with. But I will say if you do any type of tracking, the Vortech just works. It really is perfect for this sport. Thanks again for the ride man, I will never turn that down! ![]() ![]()

and the group not pretty driving-everyone in that group drives pretty aggressivelyglad you enjoyed 'the ride', and thanks for yet another stellar review, my goal in this thread was to have others review the Vortech kit, and my build, setup and how I have it dialed in. ... and its starting to please me to see the same reviews from different reviewers on both the components I have selected and how I have it setup @AZFA20 was there earlier, and saw me drive here and at AMP, out with me on my very 1st lap at that track. I think he realized today that his review in my car that day was at a track I rode for the 1st time so I didnt drive it hard. This track, I know well, and can push things much harder when I am comfy with a track. I'd love to see a 2nd day observation comments from him too. I previously tossed out my perspective of the Vortech kit last weekend as it performed on another track here in AZ so I figure it would only be fair to address this weekend as well. So the environment here in AZ was pretty similar to the previous week when the track session ended prematurely due to the oil burp the supercharger exerted. Turned out to be nothing of much concern but Vortech handled it with utmost priority and professionalism, which from a customer service perspective is outstanding! Even though there was nothing technically wrong with the system it was examined for the benefit of the community and shipped back in time for the very next weekends track event! This time around Gem had the opportunity to install the P&L 4-1 header (catted) and supply some data from the supercharger oil temps via a simple temp gauge. The supercharger temps remained well within oil degradation limits in my opinion and this is coming off a 20 minute straight session in 95+ ambient temps. Of course running this load for 20 minutes straight for 4 sessions you may want to consider a supercharger oil change after a track session but that is just good practice for anything tracked imo.
Just as before here is an example of this weeks track layout. This track is less than half the total length of last weeks and one of my personal favorite tracks. I also feel this particular track suits the fr-s/brz/86 the best in AZ for the power range it is in. Again we have a lot of tracks here so this may change over time after this platform sees more exposure to our tracks. It was obvious from the start that Gem was more comfortable on this track as well. I think it helps that his tires were ready to go this time around and the suspension was pretty well dialed in from what we did the previous weekend. I did not ride passenger at all this time around even though Gem was eager to take me out. I didn't have my helmet with me this time and I couldn't stay long since I was at this track all day the day before. Even if I had time I probably would have declined to ride along because I wanted to observe the cars character without my weight. As mentioned before he was in HPDE 4 which is a much faster crowd if you are familiar with NASA. Passing is pretty much anywhere which can help determine who is really fast on the track without a transponder. Something to note here is that for those who have never been on this track or for those who simply don't live here and have no access..... When running this course counterclockwise turns 1-2 is actually more like a huge sweeper if you are hitting the apexes correctly so there is a TON of speed carried through that section. By the time you hit 1 and going into 2 you are pretty much completely unloaded on the right side of your vehicle so the tires are mostly kissing the surface. Coming into 3 can be scary because there is a very fast transition where weight transfer takes place quick! If you have been on something like this you know that a car can come loose pretty easily. To further make turn 3 scary it is promptly followed by a tire barrier and a rather large embankment behind them. Put it this way, if you go off the track there you are going home on a flat bed. There is not much room between the track and the tires and of course if you are running this track right your coming in pretty fast on turn 3. Anyway, I bring this up to express what happened next.... Gem goes out on the track (mind you, first time I met him was the week before so I haven't seen him on this track before although he has experience on this track and I do know this prior to him going out there). Everything I know of him was from my previous review on another track. The green flag drops and off he goes with several cars in front him. Few seconds go by and of course I am watching from turn 2 because I know this is where I can get a good idea of his speed and suspension reaction although from here you cant see much of the rest of the track. Here comes Gem around turn 1 hauling @$$ as I would expect, then to turn 2 carrying even more speed as he throttles through (He's moving FAST, faster than I expected him to be but on par with what I would expect from other cars) then.......... he goes into turn 3 WAYYYYYYY faster than I would have expected and my heart dropped big time! I thought to myself omg he's going in WAY too hot and of course I am thinking to myself "I told him to carry more speed into the corners" the previous week and this is my fault. The car rotated and stuck, then slung shot out of turn 3 with the little bit of slip in the rear I would have expected from our suspension adjustments and my breath returned. I couldn't believe how much speed he carried through that corner but now that I got to see how his suspension was reacting it was not even a concern any more because it was exactly what I wanted to see but wasn't prepared to actually see it. The car just looks beautiful on the track, well mannered, and planted. This platform really shines out there on the track. Stock they are awesome but with some $$ invested they become a real competitive track car and I think over the next couple years this will become more and more evident to those vehicles that currently dominate the road courses. I hope Gem doesn't mind me mentioning that turn 3 didn't let him get away with a flawless day though He did end up loosing it at one point but the car took it well and he wasn't going in nearly as hot as the first lap when it happened. Combination of tires getting really hot and perhaps driver mistake but he was right back at it within seconds. Not even a caution flag raised One by one Gem chased down car after car and after finally 3 or so laps took the Porsche he had been hunting. He was killing it on this track and really running that car hard. I was thoroughly impressed once again how well this car was holding its own and surpassing much faster vehicles. Maybe not so much on the straight but everywhere else. Not to be mistaken for being slow on the straight but the Vortech shines overall. HPDE 4 is usually a pretty well skilled set of drivers so it's not like they are out there babying their cars. Once the session was over it was clear Gem knew he ran a fantastic heat because excitement was all over his face and he was working it out there for sure as he was drenched in sweat I took one look at the temp gauges and gave a thumbs up. The Vortech was run HARD and no issues with temp or anything else for that matter. My opinion remains the same, the Vortech is a contender! Another good day of Vortech punishment

Since Gem is banned, he messaged me and asked me to post this for those who were concerned about the oil in the SC...
"I did a oil check where I drained a bit of oil from my sc and it was down maybe .25mm from when i filled it , fluid looked perfect so there is no issue with tracking the fluid inteh heat and no need to change after 1 trackday" |

Well, I don't think the mods would care if I shared pertinent information that people would actually want. I'll filter out all the Gemism, of course.
I'll be posting his 12PSI dyno once that gets done, too. |

What ?! When did this happen and why?
Despite the Itchy and Scratchy show aspect there was a lot of good info that came from this thread. Answered my own question above: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=72 |
