I've noticed that the fr-s, even with its near-perfect (for me) pedal placement, is very hard to heel-toe. It seems the first 10-15% of the the throttle is 'laggy' so to speak. I think the drive-by-wire is a bit less than perfectly linear.

I think that is the essence of the whole debate. Shifting with the clutch protects the trans from improper rev matching. Shifting without the clutch does not.

Blipping the throttle in my Silvia prevents wheel slip. It has functioning synchromesh but it wasn't really built for a tiny flywheel and enormous rear tyres, either. Probably overdue for an upgrade in the box.
