Because its the correct width (no adapter), and doesn't require any wire-splicing to work (at least in theory).

Well that's a hell of a cop out. It's like saying why buy an FRS when you can get a camry for the same price.

For those that may be interested, I did buy this. Nice unit, and was a perfect fit in the dash, looked OEM.

In the end, I returned it though. The harness that came with it, which was supposed to be "plug and play" had three connectors on it. Two of them were the standard bus that is on just about any radio and fit with no issue. The third was a 8x2 (I think) bus that is on nearly all Toyota radios, but the FR-S has a wider bus (more pins). Without this the radio functioned fine but it did not drive drive the amp, so it would not drive all the speakers..

And, yes, I could have spliced and gotten it to work but that wasn't the point of this.

Also, I was told it would use the OEM mic for BT, but it did not. I could have lived with that, but with the other issues decided to return it.

Oh well, back to looking for the next deal.
