Metra MDF-8202-1 Toyota 2000-2012 Direct Fit OE Style Multimedia+Navigation System

Anyone ever heard of this headunit? it's supposedly a direct replacement for the Toyota headunits with Nav and such. TECH.WOOT has them in one of their side deals and I'm thinking about dropping money for it as a replacement. Hard to beat at the price but I've never heard of these guys.

They don't list the FR-S as a fit, but it lists all the other Scion models.

Probably just another generic WinCE based head unit.

Well, according to Metra (who is hanging out on the Woot forum) it will fit. I may have to bite for $250.

Wonder if it works with the stock bluetooth mic?

You may be able to modify the unit to work with it, but I doubt it. The mic included with this stereo plugs into a small audio jack, so it definitely won't be plug and play with the original mic. A few people have tried to modify the OEM mic to work with aftermarket radios with little to no success because it has active noise cancelling.

OP - before taking the plunge and buying this unit I'd double check to make sure it's a 200mm unit and not a standard double din unit. Standard double din size units will still leave the gaps on either side. You'll need a 200mm to make it fit perfectly and look OEM, or you could order the Subaru Canada side pieces which fill the gap and paint them black or something.

The factory rep says it does work with the mike but I have my doubts. The only thing you supposedly need is the optional steering wheel control cable to retain the AUX jack on the console feature. Apparently its built into that cable and I don't see an input on the front of the headunit. If you go to the link above there is a forum where you can ask the rep questions on it.

It's very tempting for the price. The interface even looks "grown up" which is what I normally hate about aftermarket radios.

It is, verified through multiple sources. Apparently Metra "Direct Fit" radios come multiple widths specifically designed to replace OEM radios without the kit..

It's definitely buyer beware though since WOOT is a you bought it you keep it site.

I found it for $299 on another site if the woot ends.

cruzinbill 04-16-2013 04:05 PM

I'm considering jumping on this too.
I first saw it on woot and decided to hop over here to see if anyone else was looking at it.

Probably won't be there for long. The new models are coming out so Metra is closing it out. It does come with a 3 year warranty though.

I pulled the trigger on it, and willing to give it a try. It's right within my price range for allowing myself to make "stupid purchases" and if it works out great, if not, I'll Ebay it and recoup some of the cost.

So far, it appears to be a direct plug-and-play except you need two cables if you want to retain the console aux-in and USB port. Those are 70-8114 (which is also the steering wheel controls if we had them) and AX-TOYUSB.

Why get this when you can get the appradio2 for $300 on Amazon?
