I haven't seen a valid rebuttal for the compromised safety; more like dodgy answers. Yeah you can drive carefully but emergency maneuvers become necessary due to external factors (other drivers, the environment) beyond your control. Just like driving with bald tires, it's the difference between avoiding a bad situation and killing others. Probably why that Virginia Law posted earlier regarding suspension modifications exists. And as @Mr.Jay mentioned earlier, Germany outlawed tires sticking out past the fenders. There must be sensible reasons for that. One I can think of is the tires will fling stuff around and crack more windshields. That's why I'm hesitant to do aggressive flushness; it'd knick up the paint along the side of my car. I like to leave a gap when I drive behind big trucks with no mudguards. I need to remember to do the same around aggressively stanced cars.
People can say it's dumb to use an aftermarket steering wheel w/o an airbag but there's no reason to hate since it only affects the person driving in a crash. That's when the "it's your car, do what you want" bit applies. Same for ugly body kits, neon lights, Honduh ricers. But when the mods start imposing on others, that's not the same. That's why certain laws for public safety exist and people transport their show/race car via trailer. Yeah, some of the hate on this thread is a bit excessive/BS (that's ft86club for ya), but buried beneath is valid concern/tough love. Quote:

Wow, this thread took off overnight.
What I don't think has been said is the real reason for the amount of derision. Sure, most people think what has been done to this car is incredibly stupid ... but more than that they wish it had been done to a car they didn't own as they don't wish to be associated with such stupidity. Kind of how other Nike owners would feel if the KKK all started wearing Air Jordans. |

I didn't bother to read much of this thread. I only have one thing to say though.
I do not understand why people think this is cool? You think drifting is cool? I can understand that. You drive around like a hoon sliding all over the place. You think drag cars are cool? Once again, understandable. You go crazy fast. You think racecars are cool? Get that too. You go crazy fast but with TURNS. You think huge speakers and sound systems are cool? Once again, kinda understandable to me. You enjoy music and made an awesome sound system. I do not understand this fad though. What is the appeal to being crazy stupid low with lots of negative camber, stretched tires, and no wheel gap? I don't get it. All I see is that you spent tons of money into really expensive wheels and suspension to put horrible tiny tires (quoting the one video where the guy is putting 155 smart tires on 15x9) on them. Then you slam the car so unless you are driving on perfect roads all the time, your wheels will start kicking up debris that hurts your paint with your fenders are digging into your tires along with your front bumper scraping all the time. Even done right, I don't get it. If someone would care to explain why this is appealing to me, I would love to be enlightened. |

WOW -- those videos made me laugh, cry and throw up in my mouth all within a couple of minutes. I never say this but damn, I'm getting old. My wife was watching TV and asked what I was watching so I showed her... Her response, "this is a joke, right?" I wish I could have told her it was...

I'm going to help bump this thread, this car is cool to me , n I even saw it in person, but you should fix those dents n wave from the quarter roll or from hitting a bump, I use to do this to some of my car there, , you know I was shaking my head when I saw you left the dent there ,

so the reason for doing this is to scrape your front bumper? If that's your thing, more power to you. but I couldn't imagine doing that in my car. intentional body damage is what it looks like to me. and frankly I don't have money to waste on excessive repairs. again if this is your thing I will not criticize you, but it's not my cup of tea. on the other hand I can appreciate the strong sense of community shown in these vids. despite not agreeing/liking the treatment of the cars, everyone involved seems to be genuinely happy, and friendly. So there's that...I guess

I love how everyone thinks that doing this stuff makes cars utterly useless... Granted the blue car is a little much for my taste, but I was at the track last weekend with a similar setup enjoying every minute of it. That's probably more than half the people bitching and poking fun at it could say.

This doesn't even make sense to me. Plasti-dip the fuck out of everything, paint wheels pink and lime green, put rally 14 rally lights all over your car, whatever - at least you can still drive the car, at least it's still functional. Those cars are so low they're almost un-driveable. How can you claim to like cars while simultaneously doing shit to make your car drive horribly? I see the value in lowering, but this takes all of those advantages and throws them out the window.
Someone please tell me these cars all have airbags and can lift up a few inches to drive home normally. ill roller - to address your comment, your car doesn't take it to the level of some of those...yours is obviously still functional. Some of those other cars have so much camber and are so low, it's a wonder the suspension doesn't snap.
