I got my 2004 S2000 with barely over 61k miles and great overall condition for $15k. Not sure if that's a normal price or if I got a good deal, but for me it was the most cost effective, low mileage, true sports car with good power-to-weight that I could find in the Bay Area after almost 2 months of searching. I also considered the Mk2 MR2 Turbo (impossible to find in clean condition and not the best handling), MR-S (low on power), FD RX-7 (almost as pricey as S2000 but 10+ years older and unreliable rotary), as well as some older Porsches. I even considered an old '71 Datsun 240Z at one point since it was dirt cheap and looked great, but I realized it was more of an antique than a track tool.

You have to search hard to find an S2000 with reasonable miles for a reasonable price. Even then, it's probably been beat upon. At least you know the car will probably last.

Why not just add a $4000 supercharger to the BRZ.
Then the comparison is old S2000 vs new BRZ.
Only difference is price.

Challenge accepted.

Care to take on the CSG sponsored S2000? (not my S2k) It's built with the same philosophy behind the CSG BRZ: a few simple but carefully selected bolt-ons.

P.S. This is coming from a new S2000 owner, so take my opinions as you will.
S2000's have about the same maintenance cost as a Civic Si.

This should be fun.

5/4 and 5/5 CVR is an option too. Gives you a few more weeks.

S2000s are cheap to maintain. They cost more to mod.

This is very true. The amount I was spending on maintenance for my AP2 was basically the same as my families Fit and Civic, with the exception of few extra things such as fluid for the diff.

That extra $15 bucks for a bottle of gear lube is gonna break the bank

Not hating or understating what a great car the S2000 is. Its better than an 86 in many respects. I just didn't want do be like every other middle-aged engineer out there with one. At least you didn't get an MX-5.

Nope...those are +45s and require a roll! Some of us dont want to permanently ruin...errr....modify the car structurally in order to make a set of $800 wheels fit. jm2c.

I love my FRS more and more. S2k still has a special place in my heart, and Im not getting rid of it, but the FRS is just so joyous for me to drive fast.
