I just downloaded torque pro and purchased this reader

BAFX Products (TM) - ELM 327 Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool - For check engine light and other diagnostics - Android compatible : Amazon.com : Automotive

the reader seems to work fine, but I have some questions.

1. can I leave the reader plugged in at all times? It won't drain my car battery?

2. also when it's plugged in it seems to protrude into the foot well. Is that ok?

3. I've read that you can program PID's? How do you do that exactly? I saw the warning stating that if I do it incorrectly I can mess up my car.

Again, some help/guidance would be much apprecaited.
1: It won't drain your battery. It only turns on when you turn the key to ACC.

2: I never hit it when I drive. If you're worried you're leg is going to bounce on it, you can unclip the socket and re-route it somewhere else.

3: Check the second post on the first page. I know you didn't read all of the posts but the first page... come on.

Have fun with it all! I love my accurate fuel gauge and temperature readouts.

So the sensor isn't on with the car off? I asked because I saw the lights blinking like crazy even when the car was off.

Hahaha I actually did read the 2nd post. That's why I asked. So you just input "verbatim" the letters and numbers for the new PID's? I just wanted to get some pointers before I fried my car and had to walk home. LOL

The lights are still on huh? Mine are off when I shut the car off. Hmm well, its not that hard to plug it in and out when needed. We wouldn't want you to have to walk due to no battery juice.

As for the PID's, just go to the custom PID option in the settings, and type in everything verbatim for each heading. You'll see they correlate once you open up the custom PID setting. If you need more help feel free to post again.

Surprised you didn't go for the mini device as they're much shorter than those. People have tested these and they do continue to use power even when the car is off, I'd only plug it in when you need it.

Can you post a link to the mini device? If indeed the one I have does suck juice while the car is powered down then I'd like to exchange it for one that doesn't. I would like to just plug it in and leave it there.

I just leave mine's plugged in.. had it for almost 2 months now, I've only unplugged it once for a few hours to test on another car. Never had an issue with starting my car. The [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008U1MOM8/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]mini version[/ame] is unnoticeable and completely out of the way.. out of site, out of mind, that could be why I never unplug it.

I'm looking for help with uploading data off the phone.

Is everyone's phone findable via wi-fi to the web log site? I can log in but haven't had any luck, after trying everything. I have even dragged the .CSV files onto my computer but haven't figured out how to put them on the site.

-Is it as simple as it looks like it's supposed to be?
-What could I be missing?
-Is there another website than ian-hawkins.com for logging Torque data?

Also.. thanks for all the help on this thread!

On the Torque App go into settings. Open General Preferences and make sure enable wifi sync with desktop is checked. Mine wasn't uploading either. It started working after I checked it.

The "remaining fuel" is pretty handy when I'm on the track. I like to run with the minimum amount of fuel in the tank to keep the weight to the minimum. Ideally I would like my low fuel light come on during the last two laps of my run (approx 5 miles in distance). So I tried to see how accurate it is. Maybe someone else could please verify, but I think there is some +/- in the exact accuracy.

My low fuel light came on at 2.4 Gal (or at least when I noticed it) on the road. So I pulled into a gas station and put in 10.8 Gal. The new reading on Torque was 12.5 Gal! 2.4+10.8=13.2, not 12.5. So it may be accurate to within a Gal. Can anyone confirm the accuracy.

On another note, is it possible to write an algorithm (for PID input) to convert oil temp to oil pressure, knowing the total volume, etc....? I suppose it all depends on the weight and properties of the oil, but maybe some of these (if known) could be set or input.

This app with an OBDII adapter is much cheaper than buying a scan tool...I wish this was around a couple of years back...

The lights are still on even when you shut the car off, it is just facing "the other direction".

For what it's worth, I parked my car during winter and left the ELM327 scanner plugged into the car for a month and I was still able to start her up no problem.
