Please do not argue with Oldskool unless you are MatadorRacing. I know that you are new to the forum and all but you won't win an argument regarding 86's against Oldskool. Kthxbai!

In his defense, its not called a Corolla by fans / motorsport enthusiasts in Japan. Levin, Sprinter, Sprinter Trueno, but most frequently, AE86 or just 8-6 are used. However, they all know its a Corolla, by its production designation. And thats really all that the AE86 and the 'normal' Corolla's have in common. Production chassis designation.
This discussion is as old as dirt, but I never tire of debating over it. http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=62783 is a similar thread on club4ag if you want to see what others have come up with. Lastly, I know my fair share of AE86 knowledge, but guys on those forums make me look like a novice when it comes to information.

I stand corrected =O
I've never heard anyone refer to em as Corollas here. Always 86, Trueno, or Levin. Go figure. |

It needs a new name. I'm not good with names, but something... very new.
Call it an AEon or a HiRo... (referring to AE86 or Hachi Roku... but I think it should be a new name that makes a reference to the old legacy.) (K.. now, I kinda like the idea of driving a HiRo. That's my vote right there.) |

I posted this in another thread, but I did get info from a sales rep, and also dug out some of my old magazines. It talks about the Fuse being the prototype for the Scion TC in 2011 release, a held up super supra, and a 2008 Prototype Celicas. In addition my first car is a 1972 Black Celica ST, 1600. 4 Speed Manual tranny, with a big huge black fish tail as a spoiler. So I am some what torn between my two loves. I have been driving corollas, for most of my life. Had one even stolen from me. But as I see here, people only think the Celica was the true type of sports car, because of Rallys and all. But man you forgot one thing.
Corolla was also one of the dominating WRC rally car that also raced against the Subaru. So I think they should name the new FT-86 Corolla Tsunami ![]() Cast iron block, aluminum head construction. Transversally mounted. 1972.3 cm3 , water cooled in-line 4 (type 3S-GTE). Bore: 85.4mm, stroke: 86mm. Compression ratio 8.5:1 Output: 299 Bhp@5700 rev/min*, 510 NM@4000rev/min. Toyota oil lubricated , water cooled turbo type CT20 (2 bar max. pressure) and air/air intercooler. 2 OHC belt driven and solid tappets. 4 valves per cylinder. Oil cooler. DENSO EFI integral engine management (injection, ignition and turbo). Transmission All wheel drive. Front and central differentials are hydro-electronically controlled. Rear differential is of hang-on clutch type. 50-50 % F/R distribution. Final drive ratio depends on surface. Six speed XTrac sequential gear box. Gear ratios depend on surface. Double carbon dry plate clutch. Suspension Front: Independent McPherson struts lower control arm , progressive coil springs and Öhlins telescopic dampers with separate cartridge, antiroll bar. Rear: Independent Independent McPherson struts, longitudinal arm, progressive coil springs and Öhlins telescopic dampers with separate cartridge, antiroll bar.
