Start with the basic, cheap car, then at least others will know when it's been modded and can be appreciated and ... money will be saved, to be allocated for more and better mods.. ![]() The only OEM mod I REALLY wanted from someone was MORE power ... that's worth some $$$... but didn't happen. |

I'd like to add the Ebrake on driverside is good for drifters or people who want the car to turn in better.

Once the market starts having a decent amount of used BRZs, they'll start coming out and ragging on FR-S owners as if they drive Ferraris in comparison. But that won't happen for a long while. |

Last night I was highly infuriated and bothered by how Scion toned down the interior; the exterior is fine and the only thing I'd actually want added - fogs - I can do myself with elbow grease, time, and a couple of Pepsis in my own driveway.
This morning, after sleeping on it and ruminating about how the lesser quality interior some more, I don't think it's that bad at all. Also, if this is more stripped than the 2689lb Subaru then I'm happy with that. In fact, I think it's great for two reasons: 1) HVAC/Dash/Radio can all be procured elsewhere. Junk yards, Euro/Japanese model parts delears, and most of all - we can do that shit ourselves. In the 6th Gen community we have added a ton of JDM/EDM features Toyota USA saw fit to omit. Sure, it takes time and a little extra money but if Scion prices it low then you're only using money you initially saved. That's a win. 2) Price. If stripping the interior will place this car at 24k OTD (in NC at least) or base MSRP at or around 22k then all I have to say to Scion is: THANK YOU! Last edited by keiri; 12-01-2011 at 09:56 AM. |

Highly disappointing interior
I am so disappointed and discouraged now by looking at the interior pictures. The interior pics of the Toyota version are soo much better looking. The toggle switches for climate controls, the push start button, and the overall quality looked better. This US version is absolutely watered down. I was really hyped up about this cars interior and overall build quality but it saddens me to see Scion FR-S stoop low like this. Don't get me wrong I still think the car will be great in terms of driving experience but I can't stop thinking of how much more enjoyable it could of been with the same interior (and LED lights) as Japans version
. If Subaru looks better interior-wise, then a Subie it is for me!

Early buyers will be people who don't need to carry others and have enough cash to blow $400 monthly payment on a car just for themselves.

Part of the reason, if not the main reason, I think the base FR-S is stripped, is if it came with the JDM amenities, it would be priced higher and pushed up at a higher, more competitive price bracket here in the USDM market. If they price it on the lower $20-$23k bracket, the competition is easier, performance wise.
I'm thinking the FR-S will be in the $20k-$23k bracket, and the BRZ will be in the $24-$28k bracket, ala RX-8 bracket. Now if you've got money to blow, a couple grand is worth it for the nicer interior amenities. I'll admit, I drive a Civic, which starts at $16k base, but mine is $22k, because it is an EX-L 4dr. It's hella nice and feels great inside, but the price jump is that high. Think about it folks. Imagine $1k-$4k (presumably the BRZ difference) in $20 bills, laid out in front of you, in a suit case. Personally count them one by one. Now look at the amenities in the JDM 86. If you'd seriously fork over all that money for that (LED headlights, fogs, oh-so-fancy digital climate controls) instead of mods you'd do yourself (be it interior or actual performance mods), then by all means, get a BRZ. If not, appreciate the [assumed] savings on the FR-S and spend that savings on mods to tailor it to your own liking. If you aren't willing to pay up at all for anything (be it a BRZ or FR-S with full options), well tough luck. Get real people. $20k with those amenities? I guess you're also forgetting to complain about no AWD, no turbo, 300HP, 2000lbs curb weight, etc. What next, it doesn't give you eternal life? Geeze. It's like a lot of you have never shopped/researched for a car. It's almost like youtube comments. |

The only 3 things that bothered me alot and I cannot survive without are:
1. No heated seats (I pray it is an option) 2. No Fog Lights 3. NO HIDS! what i dislike but can do without: -Push button Start - no dual climate control -that UGLY radio!
