I've had mine nearly a year and it's still my favorite color for the car.

One of the things I like the most is its rarity. As the twins are becoming more and more common (especially the frs) at least my car is still somewhat rare because of the uncommon color. I hope they don't offer hot lava for 14' making it even more rare.

I originally ordered a Hot Lava as I really liked the color and saw one at the 1st 86 event in Long Beach, but I felt that in the long run the color was perhaps too trendy and would fall from favor after a few years making resale a bit tougher. That said, I wish now I would have gotten it as it is striking and a real eye catcher.

Also, I see a lot of people calling it dull and unattractive in anything but direct sunlight, but personally I like how moody this color can be depending on the lighting. It can look completely different morning/noon/evening, and I don't think it's rusty/brown on overcast days. It looks more burnt orange than bright orange, like more red was added. I'm biased though, I love my hot lava.

Lava its a nice color but I feel like as the car age the color may look funny like example back in late 90's to early 2000 yellow was ok now it looks funny or what they call a fad color.

I have a hot lava fr-s and I love the color. The only other color I really liked is the Subaru blue. I only had the option of the hot lava or whiteout when I bought mine though so I didn't have a chance to see the other colors in person. All the other fr-s on the lot were automatic whiteouts.

Don't forget TEAL!

Remember how many cars came in that god awful color in the late 80's?

(I just saw a beat-up, rusted-out, teal, IROC-Z being driven by a redneck on my way back from lunch!)

HL is the only color that allows the car to look sporty while still staying serious. Normally silver is that color, but argento imo makes the car look cheap. It's my favorite color on the 86, followed closely by ultramarine.

White is so popular because it's a color chosen by all the tuners to make their cars flow. I think it started with euro cars, for some odd reason almost everyone my age is in love with audi, bmw,vw.

I think the hot lava is an acquired taste, some people think it's too loud of a color, while others think it's ugly. With all the lines on this car, IMHO I think it looks good in all the colors it's produced in including World Rally Blue for the BRZ. It's not a mainstream color b/c most people like the home grown colors.

I wanted Hot Lava, but there wasn't a single car in my state that was that color with the options that I wanted.

So I just bought a Whiteout because the dealership had 5 of them in stock...

If I had a color-shifting car, I would make it Hot Lava about 7% of the time. But I guess I'll have to be satisfied with Hot Asphalt. And I am.
