Why isn't Hot Lava more popular?

In reply to the Whiteout thread, why isn't Lava more popular of a color? Do you guys not like it? Couldn't find one? The exterior clashes with the interior?

Just curious. If I had the choice, I would go Lava or Firestorm at this point.

In my opinion it's the ugly color for the FR-S. I know Hot Lava is rare, but i've only seen 3 Firestorm counting mine in the North Georgia/ Chattanooga area. Seems pretty rare here as well.

Because people don't like it? I mean kind of a ridiculous question, isn't it? Why is any non-popular thing unpopular?

I actually like the color. The reason I would only consider Firestorm or Whiteout was because of the seat inserts and interior accents. I thought the red looked odd on the orange, so I went with Firestorm. Still dreaming about Whiteout though.

In my opinion, hot lava often looks dull, unless it's in the sun, then it's probably the most amazing color out of the bunch.

I love Hot Lava and that is what I plan on ordering assuming something better doesn't come along for the 2014MY. I don't get what the hang up is over the red interior stitching effecting the decision on the exterior color. I don't consider the color of the brick on the outside of my house when I paint a room inside.

Hot Lava isn't everyones cup of tea, but I'll admit that if you do the right thing mods, it does look pretty darn good.

I think it's reasonable to conclude that it's because consumers are going with their personal preference, not trying to balance out Toyota's spreadsheet. That and it's more noticeable to Johnny Law whilst he's staring at highways and roads full of white and silver vehicles.

I really don't like the color at all... asked a dealer about it when pre-ordering my FR-S, and he said it was one of those colors that "you either love it or hate it."

MVJ1975 04-11-2013 12:50 PM

Personally, it's one of my favorite colors for the car. Can't help you there.

strat61caster 04-11-2013 12:51 PM

I like it alot,

Orange is a "LOOK AT ME" color, not as many people have that personality as you would think, I know I don't. If a hot lava had come in with no options I would have bought it, alas the Asphalt arrived first, you really can't go too wrong with any of the colors (glad Toyota is finally taking risks! lol)

I have a hot lava and it's great when it's sunny outside but during the winter it just looks dull and brown.

Xdragonxb0i 04-11-2013 12:53 PM

It just too bold for everyone. I never considered hot lava until. After I got my silver FRS. Hot lava makes a great color for show cars. It stands out and attract attention

From a 2012 Forbes article, "white, silver, gray and black vehicles vastly outnumber cars of other colors, not just in the United States, but the world over. Collectively, they account for 76 percent of the automotive market."

People don't like color! I'd argue the percentage is higher than that. Take a look at the cars on the highway on your drive home. They're all white, silver, gray, or black.
