If the orange were brighter like this, I would have a hot lava right now. Too many times it looks so dull.

I originally wanted a Hot Lava to the point where I was waiting on it to come in. However I walked on another lot one day and found the Firstorm and didn't love the Lava enough to justify a few month wait. I also wanted the automatic which made finding a Hot Lava even harder. For me it just came down to them not having the color in stock or else I would have walked away with it.

I've only seen one hot lava and loved it. My biggest hang up with getting it was that I thought I would get tired of it after a while.

People don't like color! I'd argue the percentage is higher than that. Take a look at the cars on the highway on your drive home. They're all white, silver, gray, or black.
Exactly. People are boring.

I personally love the Hot Lava, especially on a bright, sunny day!

When I was first looking at buying an FRS, I was still driving my black BMW and was swearing off dark/black cars forever and really wanted something different. The Hot Lava and Firestorm were the colors I REALLY wanted!

Of course, when I finally saw the Asphalt in person...

Unless a ton of people order Hot Lava and are willing to wait for their cars, everyone will be at the mercy of what Toyota's sales arm thinks will sell. I actually quite like the color, but, after test driving the car and also finding that I like Firestorm, I couldn't wait the time it would take to order the car in a different color (although my favorite colors have varied during the past year). I have had months of driving enjoyment that would have been otherwise shortened by waiting for another colour choice.

The one bright color you sometimes see in cars on the road is red. Hot Lava is the one real outlier in the FR-S palette. (I would have bought one if it had been in stock.)

Because its a color most people would get sick of after a while.

I'm curious on how they came up with the color distribution. At my dealer they weren't doing preorders so you got what ever color they happened to receive. Not sure if the dealer had any say so in the colors they receive. Unlike the Subaru dealer where all of their cars they receive are preorders by the customer.

Guess the scion dealer and I were lucky that the first manual they got was a hot lava because I would have bought the wr blue Brz I had on preorder next door otherwise.

Scion/Toyota probably assumed it wouldn't sell as much as it is a different color than most people are used to so they just didn't make as many. It's a big part availability.

The other thing I would guess is it's just an out-there, bright color. People like normal colors. I bet even someone with orange as their favorite color wouldn't put it on their car, it's just not a normal vehicle color. Personally though, while red is a sports car color, I've always seen orange as an exotic/sports car color. I got Hot Lava because I've always wanted an orange sports car. That's what I got pulled in on.

I really like my hot lava, I saw three of them here in San Antonio and they all sold pretty quick.

I second that! I think it's just a color that'll eventually lose it's appeal. Had an old co-worker of mine who bought an atomic orange vette...looked great at first but after a while, you don't quite notice the hint of orange as much but more of the overall base brown color.

The first and only time I saw a hot lava FRS was on a overcast day. It looked like a rusty, brown car. Not sexy in any way. I thought it was nasty.

In many pictures you see here in the forums, the hot lava FRS is in direct sunlight <-- Don't get me wrong, but they look sexy as hell!
