Aw maaaan.
You guys make me jealous.
I have ordered my Pearl white STD Manual in December.

I was SUPER picky with where I buy in Namibia, mainly going for good customer service.
I have so far not even got a production date.
The dealership has been trying for the last 2 weeks or so to swap for one that either has a production date, or is available, without success.

there are, according to them, 3(!!!) white standards coming into SA in the next month, all booked.

Dealerships here are not allowed to carry stock of the vehicle (as far as I was informed), but rather have to ship it back to SA if it's not on order.

Meantime, a mate of mine at Subaru has called me three times by now, telling me that he can have a white BRZ here in 2 weeks. Only problem: the Subie is almost 100K more than the price I get on the Toyota. And that 100K make the difference between a fun toy, and a price point where something more sensible (as a second car) would make more sense...

Where you buy is less relevant than where you service If you're looking for good customer service, you can choose a dealer after you've gotten your car since you will be dealing with them on a regular basis.

If you're looking to get your hands on one ASAP, then call around and see who can get you one sooner. Are you allowed to cancel your order? If so, then place your order at all of them, and cancel the rest once you get a confirmed production date.

@Mike Hoxbig

Around here, all Toyota dealerships are forced to service and honour a service plan. That means that I can take my car to any of the 7 or 8 dealerships here at any given time.

When I ordered my car, I called around, got lots of call back promises, and one single email back, from this dealership. This specific dealership remembered that I talked to them (in person) months ago.
The best I got from the others was one response via phonecall that said "No... not in stock - we can get. 3 months." In as many words.
That put me off enough to not want to deal with any of the others.

The problem in NAM is simply choice. This specific dealership is in Swakopmund (360km), when I am in Windhoek already. 5 Toyota dealerships would be closer.

The one where I got the somewhat crappy response from happened to have a mate working in the workshop. They ordered a High Spec orange one as the first 86 came to NAM, and they got it in late Feb, and sold it within a day. Since then, they've had orders and cancellations due to waiting time, so they can't get them in any quicker either.

The problem they're having is that they're being shafted by SA. SA gets the lion's share of the cars (obviously), and we get the scraps. Unfortunately, that means that if one of the big dealerships in SA orders a white standard model, theirs gets pushed before mine. Sucks more balls than a hoover in a beanbag factory, but c'est la vie.

Ah, come on guys, you only live once!

I'd 'sensibly for once' ordered a demo 86 STD, and my wife said 'I know you really want the BRZ so just get it' and I'm glad I did, even if I had to wait a bit....

@Vladror: Thanks for the offer. Might consider it at a later stage. I am trying to establish just how much of a mission imports from SA are right now. I know that from Swaziland, they are a mother of a mission, and frighteningly expensive, since the registration here goes through the roof (mate of mine did that with his R32 Skyline GTR). Not just wondering because of the 86 either... there's some NICE older cars in SA that we simply can't get our hands on here (for example the Jag XKR second hand is around 450K there @5 years old. There's ONE 4 year old one here, and they want 970K for it)

This is an auto maybe someone else would be interested.
I can't understand why Toyota even offer the automatic option.

I've seen a few high specs, with TRD body kit, exhaust, sat nav for R380K. Mileage 1000 to 3000km.

Are these good value for money? Come trade-in time all these extras don't count.

i think you already answered your own question there... unless you're willing to pay the premium to own one right now, i wouldn't pay that much
