i know but i always make the tires squeal every time i try i have to push the brake pedal down pretty far to make my heel reach the gas.

@frslee: I know the feels. It's difficult for me to go on Reddit at the firm without snickering like a little girl.

Use the handbrake. I always put the handbrake on if I'm stopped on any incline at traffic lights or in traffic.

I do wonder if it being called an 'emergency' brake in the US and people there learning in autos, don't consider the handbrake as something you use all the time in a manual car.

Doing hill starts was one of the first things I learned in my driving lessons.

You are probably coming in too fast then. If you try downshifting to second at 45-50mph, you might have a bad time. I try to keep it under a certain rpm (gear dependent) going into the downshift. I don't know what that rpm is though. I just listen.

i tried it on a back road and i just listen too lol. this car is just hard to heel and toe. needs a longer gas pedal imo.

Practice... practice... practice!

Imho, when I see a driver in front of me roll back and I can hear that it's stick shift (autos don't revvv like mad before moving forward usually unless he's trying to dump it), it's the most pathetic thing ever. It just shows you don't know how to drive it well.

It takes practice, practice, practice just like anything in the world.

And it's not just me - in Ontario, Canada - if you show up to your driver's test in a stick shift and roll back at ANY TIME, you have an insta-fail. No if's and's or but's. FAIL. I believe they are right. I almost got rolled into a couple of years back exiting a parking lot from a Jay's game - parking lot ramp out was packed with cars and knowing this, I left at least 8-10feet between me and the car in front and I see him roll back, back, back and here I am in a stick shifter myself (and a fully loaded car!) and just watch in horror as he finally rediscovers he has brakes and stops maybe a foot in front of me. I do the same thing except no roll in my case - though with 4 big guys in my little Yaris I thought my engine might barely make it happen but it worked out ok.

If you're on an incline and aren't quick enough to catch the clutch and gas after brake release, USE YOUR HAND BRAKE! It helps you save on clutch wear as you can gently release the brake while adding gas and you learn a little more each and every time you do this.

Plus you won't scare people behind you either.

i still find heel and toe very difficult for this car. the pedals are just too far apart height wise.
true, however,ANY roll back may be enough to contact the guy behind ya ,because some f**kheads could possibly be 1 inch from your back bumper!..just sayin'

idc.. thats their fault then. if a car rolls back and hits the person behind them because they are too close, its their fault for being too close. go look it up. i have a dash cam also.

(idc) i don't park that close to people.just made a general statement is all,but YOU should care enough to pull forward if they do that to avoid any possibility of hitting them, but,of course it's 'suuuup" to you as the asians say!..also what does it matter WHO is at fault if your car gets damaged, unless of course, you (dc) about that! i don't have to look it up,you are right,i already know this, but your car STILL gets damaged,so (w.t.f!) eh! he! he!
