So hows the Fr-s on Hills

just ordered mine whiteout in manual this will be my first manual car. I know how to drive stick but I still roll back when i drive. so hows is this car on a steep hills? will it roll back alot or does it have a hill assist? i was going to test drive one but they dont have any in mt except for at.

I just hate rolling back

No hill assist (that exists?)
You will roll back like any other manual car, just have to learn to move your feet faster or use the parking brake to avoid rolling back

You learn pretty quickly where the clutch let's out on the car so you shouldn't have too much trouble. If anything just use your e-brake to hold you in place until you know you have it.

The car will roll back as far as you let it.

On the steepest of hills mine hasn't moved an inch.

Learn the clutch. I used the E-brake method on big hills until I could teach myself without someone behind me.

Before you release the brake, release the clutch just a little. It will give a little bite which will allow you to switch from brake to throttle.

When I do this I try to tap the throttle because too much will cause wheel spin...

Do the clutch engagement adjustment mod. Then the question becomes "how capable are YOU on hills?"

funny thing... i have a hill right at a red light i have to do every time i leave the area i live in. not once have i stalled it there... yet when i took the keys i was reversing out of the parking spot at the dealership.... i stalled  granted i hadnt drove a manual and quite a few years before that days test drive tho.

like everyone says if you are not confident or some jerk is just really close to you use the e-brake to get use to it... then its jsut about the fast foot movement

Yes, new Subarus with the electronic parking brake have a hill assist feature. Not something I'd want in this car, though. Pretty hard to do an e-brake slide with an electronic brake! ;)

Very slow going up the hills.

Like a guy reviewing it said, its like being on a roller coaster slowly going up to the top off the track.

This car is my first manual and I've been fine on hills. Best suggestion I can make is just don't think about the hill and just drive.

My 2011 WRX had hill assist and a proper e-brake, it's not just on the electronics ones.

No one at the dealership mentioned this "feature" to me so the first time I was on a hill, i thought my brakes had locked up.

Having hill assist was weird for me at first, then I got use to it. In this car, I had to get use to NOT having hill assist anymore. It's easy though, once you get use to it and learn how to control the throttle, clutch, and brakes on a hill.

I use to live in SF, THOSE hill were horrendous

ive been ok on hills. my drive way is on a hill and as soon as i get out of my drive way onto the street its a hill so im geting my practice. the clutch lets out late. but im getting used to it fast

i roll back like 1 inch and rev it to 1.5-2k to 5 mph then let off the clutch then take off from there. the car does roll back pretty fast on steep hills lol
