Its kinda weird, the crickets come and go. Just passed 4200 miles, and I have heard them intermittently, doesn't seem dependent on temperature or which gas I have.

However, I noticed condensation in my taillights the other day, so I guess the gremlin moved from the engine bay to the tail lights.

Do you mean you used to have it all the time, but now it's intermittent? If so, then that's what happened to me and it eventually went away.

Well, its hard to tell--the car was garaged for 4 months. It had the crickets when I parked it, and it still gets them from time to time. I would be happy if they faded.

However, the engineer in me is afraid that the sound of the crickets going away indicates either 1) the o-ring causing the sound has worn down slightly, like when you get new shoes and they squeak at first, just a matter of breaking in

or 2) the part that caused the squeak is on the cusp of imminent failure. That reminds me, I need to buy a car fire extinguisher on the way home.

Well you can always get it fixed under warranty. I have noticed others with the same tail light issue and they had it replaced under warranty also. Not sure if aftermarket lights leak like the factory ones do.

The aftermarket tail lights that come with a gasket sealed to the housing shouldn't leak, but the ones that reuse the stock gasket have the potential to. My Colin tails fogged using the stock gasket, but both the stock and aftermarket sets stopped after replacing the gaskets with better ones. You can PM me or hit the link in my sig if you want a set shipped out, or get them replaced at the dealer. As far as I know, the dealer replacements aren't sealed either.

So I just started to get the idle chirp, but my VIN is after Production Change Effective VIN on the bulletin. Will they not do this work on my car?

The taillight replacement done by the dealership can work, if they do it correctly.

I believe a few members with higher VINs have had this serviced. Never hurts to take it in and check.

chirp chirp

I work at Toyota. My frs was not in the vin range for this chirpping noise from the fuel pump. My tech got an ok from Toyota but the only thing is they are nationally back ordered for this part. Regardless of what anyone says, this is not a normal sound if Toyota is changing out the part for you. Its worth taking in to have it looked at and changed. If they say no, just call Toyota yourself and I'm sure they will say yes. If not, come to my dealership and get the work done here.

I am nearly a year and 10K miles in and my crickets are my constant companions. I have never seen any error lights or had one iota of trouble due to the crickets. Until I see something that indicates a real problem, I will let the crickets keep me company.

There still seems to be mixed opinions regarding this. I took mine in at 5K miles and had a couple components replaced with the new PNs. However, by 8K miles the chirp was back.

I brought it in again at 10K miles and this time the dealer stated that it had the new PN and the noise was deemed to not be causing any harm to the car itself.

C'est la vie. $25K car, bound to be some kinks to work out.

I feel as if people aren't reading.... Ethanol free gas fixes the problem. If you filled up with "ethanol free gas" and it still makes the noise then you need to read the pump more carefully because you obviously didn't fill up with ethanol free gas. Most gas stations have a pump separate from the others with the ethanol free.
