Its not as easy as repinning the connector because the wire on the g37antenna doesn't reach the factory connector plug. Its too short. Other then that, I just removed the g37 connector altogether and plugged the pin straight into the OEM connector.

This is correct. That's why the Canadian BRZ's antenna base is the same size as the FR-S base (we don't get sat radio with our Navi - different HU).

Seemed good enough. I don't really listen to the radio much but I skipped around a bit on the stations and decided it would work for me.

I changed my mind, radio sucks ass with the antenna. Seemed okay in the garage but driving around the other day, with a dead battery on my cell phone, it was horrible.

I'm thinking maybe that extra ground wire needs to be connected.

The short one up top is the old G37 wire that was too short.
You can see where I spliced in the factory FRS coax.

That connector is the factory connector.

The skinny little wire (I assume to be a ground) went inside the FR-S antenna and soldered to the circuit board.

I tried to find a ring terminal big enough for me to ground that wire to the main antenna bolt but it didn't fit and I didnt' care enough to find another one.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. Really want this flat profle antennae, did you get the reception issue resolved? Has anyone made a similar replacement for the market yet?

Im going to attempt to transfer the frs antenna board and cable into the gtr housing, only if i cant find a grounding wire point for the gtr antenna board. Without a good ground the bluetooth phone reception and radio suffer. Or does BT have an antenna somewhere else?

Will keep you all updated this weekend.

This is true! Its much easier to install the FRS antenna electronic module into the G37 case.

So if you take apart the FRS antenna, you get:

If you try to pull the antenna wire after you unscrew the circuit board, you'll notice that a copper sheath (the ground of the antenna coax) is soldered directly to the metal frame of the antenna base: (the metal tab with the purple or red ink is the tab you need to desolder off the board before you can have access to desolder the ground from the antenna base)

Heres a front view after desoldering the tab:

Once this tab is gone, you can desolder the ground copper sheath off the antenna base, pull back prongs that hold the antenna wire to the base, and slip the wiring through.

Next take apart the G37 antenna. The hardest part about disassembly is getting the metal base off the painted shell. I used a small plastic tab remover and worked my way around it prying from the pointed end of the antenna. take your time or you might snap a tab (which I did) and then you'll have to superglue the bad boy back to keep the antenna assembly from rattling.

Heres what it looks like disassembled:

Finally you can save or chuck the G37 antenna module, and then place the FRS one into the slot but you have to screw it down a different angle. But it fits!

Dont forget to solder the ground to the metal base. See the blob of solder near the number 779 in the above photo!

Reassemble and fire up the radio! Enjoy!

Functionality is perfect once you ground the outer copper sheath to the G37 metallic frame.
