The Alcan in the winter is kinda dangerous. But thats only if you drove it like I did. No one around for hundreds of miles. Cliffs around every corner. That was fun. ^_^

The one in cali looks like it would still be a fun drive though, but only if it wasn't busy.

It's a dream of mine to get to drive the tail of the dragon someday... but we do have some great roads here in the SF Bay Area. Nothing quite like TOTD but we do have some excellent driving roads like Skyline, Mines Rd, etc. Check out this compilation video I did showing many of the local backroads we have to enjoy here in NorCal...

The TOTD is a awesome road.. Just way.. Way over rated.. Or maybe too popular would be a better word.. Way to much traffic, to many trucks in the wrong lane, and even on a Tuesday morning around brunch time, was stupid packed with cars and slow bikes, and even if those were gone the cops around every third or fourth turn will pop you.. Just to much traffic to enjoy it.. But, every once in a while the road cleared up for some fun.. This was on a bike mind you.. Never done it in a car.. Rode from central Texas to the tail for a day and a half of riding..

Man if they would just close that rode off for enthusiast to enjoy

yeah, from what I've heard it's become a little too publicized and a bit of a tourist attraction. Same kind of thing has happened to Skyline over here. That is why Mines Rd is one of my favorite backroads these days, it still has that "undiscovered" feel to it. Many of the other roads, you have to get out at the crack of dawn (or the dead of night) in order to truly enjoy the clear road without traffic/cyclists etc.

makes me think of the first few words of the speech J. Clarkson gives in Forza 4 intro: "We are an endangered species, you and I. We lovers of speed..."

if you've never seen it:
