If it's not dramatically different, do you think end of year 2013 models will have reduced prices to "get them off the lot"? I'm not sure this time around, because it doesn't seem like there are any on the lots to begin with... LOL.
Actually there is a good number of BRZ’s in the North-East of US at least. I’ve just ordered (because I was picky about the color and the configuration) Limited AT in WRB for $300 under invoice ($27,792). Need to wait 4-8 weeks. If you take a car from the lot, you might get even a better price, but probably not easily.

Seems like a good time to buy if you are ready and don’t want to “waste” another summer.

It's a bit different in Canada. After 14% taxes and $1700 PDI/freight&delivery, a Limited BRZ runs almost $37k without any extra options... quite a bit higher than in the US where the exact same car would cost $29k OTD.

I'm pretty sure second hand BRZs in Canada cost more than brand new BRZs in the states, which is sort of ridiculous actually.

Ouch. Every time I flirt with the idea of moving to another country I get beaten back by the cost of being a car enthusiast.

An assumption that I've made: the price difference is made up of a stupid 6.1% tax for all imported cars (ie not made in North America).

25,495 *1.061 = 27,050 vs. 27,295CDN pricing or 245. Or something to argue about at your CDN dealership.

On that note: do we have a whitelist for dealerships in Canada?

I heard the FR-S might be a convertible. Do you think Subaru will have to make the BRZ also convertible?

What. A sport tech brz in ontario is 35k after tax msrp. Thats some crazy dealer markup.

I'm glad I live in Alberta, where I only have to pay 5% gst to get a sport tech for 33k otd and that's before negotiations

Man I feel bad for our Canadian GT86/BRZ brothers. That is a pretty hefty extra price to pay for a car. I guess we are luckier in the United States than many of us realize.

Not only Canada but the rest of the world. I think we have it the cheapest (even cheaper than Japan!) yet we whine and cry about the price. Because not fast in straight line for price. USA, I am disappoint.

Agreed - I got a deal signed for $35,167 OTD in the Toronto region (including wheel locks) back in June. However at this point I very much doubt you are going to get anything off MSRP no matter how good your negotiating skill. I got them to waive the silly $350 admin fee though.

Might be able to knock a bit off MSRP at a high-volume Scion dealer these days however.

With the BRZ and FR-S it's mostly the high tax rate - but then we don't pay $1000s per year for medical etc. so there is a tradeoff.

BRZ base US -$25,495: BRZ base Canada - $27,295: - 7% markup. As pointed out above, there is a 6.1% duty on non-North American cars here which explains most of this differential (unless there is also duty on non-NA cars in the US).

However if you look at the WRX, we really get it in the hanging fruit - US base is $25,795; CDN base is $32,495 - 26% markup when currencies are at par - insane!

That does suck. I remember when I sold Audis a gentleman wanted to buy an S5 from us and ship it to Canada because it cost nearly twice as much up there. I had a gentleman from Sweden inquiring about buying a WRX here and shipping it back to Sweden, where they only have the WRX STi and it costs something upwards of $50k.

Just got this information when looking into the 2014 model:

"We are about 6 months away from the 2014 BRZ at this point, and we do not know what their pricing will be or what kind of availability we will have. Typically we get a price increase every year and given the high demand we have seen so far on the BRZ, it could be more than usual for virtually the same car. If you want to get one sooner, let me know."

So, who knows at this point (apart from specific people at Subaru). I only hope that if theres an increase, there will be some different enhancements to justify it.

Definitely sounds like someone (who doesn't know much more than we do) trying to gently sway you toward a 2013.

Better not move to Northern Europe then. In my country a new BRZ Is $55.000 because of the ridiculous taxes over here.
