***2014 BRZ Rumors thread***

With news soon to follow and guys like me that will be jumping onboard the BRZ owners club we need to start a thread to collate our findings...

I know that they are anticipating the STi version but I am more concerned with the base platform. I will be getting a limited edition.

My questions are:

- Will there be a backup camera?
- Will the the idle issue be fixed?
- Will the condensation issue be fixed?
- Will they have new style of wheels?
- Has the drop sync SAT/NAV issue been resolved?
- Is the BRZ going to have more HP or at least a smother power delivery? If you own one please chime in is it even necessary to add HP or clean up the power band?
- Are any suspension or handling adjustments needed?
- Do any of the current owners have ideas of improvements that would increase the enjoyment of owning one of the TWINs?

Thanks for your responses!

Cheers! :happy0180:

I just have to say i like how your car is DMG

dtrop 01-04-2013 12:35 PM

I am looking to buy a 2014 model. Here's what I hope will change.

Fixing chirp
Light condensation

That's all.

My wishes though would be for their upgraded exhaust/intake that they have been talking about.

Light condensation is fixed, corrected at the factories and the chirp is also fixed and can be easily fixed by re installing the fuel pump in the tank correctly.

I would not anticipate any real significant changes, more options maybe (however there doesn't seem to be a place allotted for a BU camera)

I think at a bare minimum you are going to see the fixes being done at the dealer integrated at the factory level well before the '14's start rolling out, (obviously as they already have been)

It is unlikely that you will see any real changes to the drivetrain, do not expect more HP or better MPG, the motor just made the wards 10 best motors award...turns out it's a pretty cool little sewing machine...

the car doesn't NEED more HP, you might, but the car has no real problem getting around and is fairly zippy when rev'd above 4k....unless you live above ~4000 ft, (driving through colorado was depressing)

you realize ofcourse that the fuel pump that chirps is not in the tank at all but actually bolted to the driver side cylinder head...

Fair enough - my memory failed me there. The TSB does not mention where the pump is, just says "Scion: the high pressure fuel pump assembly makes a high pitch chirping or squeaking noise when idling or warming up engine. model 2013 fr-s. *pe

Read more: http://www.faqs.org/car/scion-fr-s/#ixzz2H1n4kdGw" but someone on the board said it was on the tank. Makes sense it is in the engine bay - as the sound comes from there.

The fix is still proper installation of the unit

Id like to see the Nav unit 'fixed', remove all the safety features that dont let you select destinations, make connections, or go into advanced settings while the car is moving. At the bare minimum remove it when there is someone in the passenger seat.

Fix the issue with multiple phones being added to blue tooth causing a delay to the head unit or make it easier to remove saved phones.

What do you guys mean by light condensation? Like waterish staying inside lights or wah?

there is two.. the one in the tank is low pressure to feed the high pressure pump (in engine bay that chirps) and the port injectors..

Yes, the launch cars had a problem with moisture getting inside of the tail lights and causing some fogging

I really hope they fix the nav/bluetooth issues across their whole model line, not just the BRZ. There have been known issues with bluetooth sound quality in the Forester, and the Impreza/Crosstrek have the same nav unit as the BRZ. I haven't had too many customer complaints but I'm sure it will be a problem at some point given the number of Foresters I've sold...

I'm planning on getting a late 2013 model, as the rumors that they'll be adding TGV's to the intake for 2014 has me worried. That and 13 is my (ironically) lucky number.

speedracer38 01-04-2013 03:32 PM

For 2014 there are a few changes I'd like to see done to the car. Approaching almost 16k miles on my BRZ I have spent quite a bit of time behind the wheel.

The light condensation isn't an issue for me so saying it should be fixed on the 2014 model is silly, even Bugatti Veyrons can get condensation in the lights which is a simple fix and not an "upgrade".

Hearing previous rumors that the car will have 230~ HP was exciting news and I am all for it. The car doesn't need 300HP in my humble opinion... Along with the upgrade in power I would expect Subaru to make sure the torque dip is taken care of. That is definitely something which should be fixed for 2014. A few odds and ends I'd like to see is Subaru remove some of the cheap plastic pieces on the interior and swap the parts out for the JDM ones like the kneepads on the center console and the speaker inclosure. When I drove my car cross country and back over the summer (Connecticut to California to Connecticut) the kneepad on the center console was actually painful to rest my knee against after awhile because it's hard plastic and provides ZERO padding. The JDM option for the power folding mirrors would also be nice. I am hoping they will use a nicer material on the fake "side vents". The plastic looks very cheap on the car even when blacked out. HID fog lights would be a nice addition as well.

A few other things I would expect to see (fingers crossed!) - exhaust upgraded...well, at least the tips. Come on Subaru the stock tips look like crap on the US models! I believe it will be a requirement for all cars MY2014+ to have reverse cameras in the US which is something I would really like to have on the BRZ.

Lastly what I really, really like to see done on the 2014 exterior is the same things done to the STI "spy shots" on the Nurburgring. The front splitter, side skirts, those small bits behind the rear wheels, and larger rims with wider tires!

If the 2014 has a majority of things I listed I will definitely plan on upgrading, but I will definitely own a BRZ regardless for a very long time!

I took delivery of my car on May 31st and have had no issues whatsoever with condensation in the lights. Sorry to hear of your troubles.
