If you care that little about your investment, so be it.
A vehicle is not an investment, it's a machine that serves a purpose. The purpose of this particular machine is to be fun to drive from point A to point B.

Regardless, the point of my comments is that it makes no sense for someone who does not have the problem to care in any way what those of us who do have it are doing about it. It doesn't bother me, so I wait. If it bothers you, get your pump replaced, complain to corporate that that didn't work, and put oil in your gas or use ethanol free gas until they fix it properly.

A vehical isn't an investment? Thats like saying that a house isn't an investment because you sleep in it, or getting an education isn't an investment because you can't touch it.

Okay...

If thats what you think then explaining equity and the affect this chirp has on it will be a waste of time on my part.

That's what my wife said! Probably go with the Asphalt color as long as it doesn't have the same problem. But with so many people having issues, any other one I pick probably will have the same issue.

Investments don't lose money instantly and continue to do so with no chance of regaining value.

FALSE:

Investments can lose money instantly and have no promise of return.

That is ONE definition but if you had of spent more time before copy and pasting that you would have seen that it can mean many different things depending on the context of the investment and what you hope to return from said investment.

[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investment"]Investment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

Cars are investments, they do have returns that are not always measured in income, interest or appreciation in terms of currency but can have other returns.

You do yourself no justice thinking of things in base terms just to prove your point :/.

Looking over the thread it seems you kinda just want to have someone to argue with or put down so I'm out.

Cali resident; it's quietest with the cheapest Arco gas I can find (minimum E10 I believe) to the point of no chirps. Other posters have mentioned that ethanol free gas has had no effect.

Your mileage may vary. :happy0180:

Edit: hopefully dealers will never touch my car, we'll see if it starts up when the temperature comes up but so far it's been quieter as the temperatures rise.

Well I'm hoping E0 92 is a temp fix until Toyota comes up with a solution.

It would be a sad world if everyone thought that way.

Although my 86 doesn't have this problem after nearly 6,000km, probably because ethanol is rare here, I am interested and feel entitled to comment if I want.

It appears to be a single washer in the HPFP that gets noisy when the combination of ethanol and heat reduce the level of lubrication. Unless there's been some more information that i've missed? I thought it was supposed to have been addressed about November 2012 build on?

I certainly couldn't put up with my pride and joy sounding like shit.

There are 2 solutions until it's resolved.
Use ethanol free fuel but I wonder if there is damage caused and sometimes that might not totally fix the problem[noise]?
The other method, which freaks people out, is to add a tiny amount of high quality ash free 2 stroke oil when you fill up the tank.
I used it at 1:200 for 3 years in my last vehicle which also had a HPFP and the only effects were a quieter engine, lower fuel consumption and I hope, a longer lasting engine and fuel system.
That was a common rail turbo diesel and 1:1000 seems to be enough to shut the chirp up in this case.
If mine starts chirping and Toyota haven't got a fix then I wont hesitate to add 2T because it makes sense to me and nobody using it has reported any problems as far as i'm aware?

Each to their own solution and good luck.

A sad world where people aren't referred to as "pathetic" for not giving a shit about a stupid noise?

I quoted what you said, verbatim, I didn't string together my own version and words as you have above.

I was a bit harsh but the complacency of some who accept the noise doesn't help the cause of those who are driven mad by it. It dilutes their chance of being heard and the problem fixed.
The fact that it's still a problem after all this time is certainly pathetic.

Fixed that for you. Don't believe I misconstrued your words in any way.

So sorry I don't feel like wasting my time taking up the charge against a harmless noise. It certainly would be nice if everyone in the world could stand up for everything that's wrong in the world but that ain't happening.

I can certainly agree though that this should have been fixed by now. However like I mentioned before, my guess is they have it fixed (or are focused on fixing it) for the '14 models. And we'll get the fix once those roll out.
