Just to think of a couple sub 23k 200+ hp RWD coupe cars that might compete with the 86...
Ford Mustang: 305 hp - $22,310
Hyundai Genesis Coupe: 210 hp (increasing to 275 hp for the 2013 model year)- $22,250

I think that Toyota is going to sell the car in the USA for right around $25k or under, but it’s not going to be quite the same car that you see in the pictures that have been released. Some of the luxuries that you see such as the automatic dual climate control and heated seats are probably not even going to be available as options on the Scion. There probably really won’t be any options or trim levels, it’s going simply be the Scion FRS for $24,995 and it’s going to be a pretty stripped down version of what is sold abroad. The Subaru BRZ is going to have some of that stuff and it is going to go for around $28k

That’s just my guess, of course.

Part of what makes me think this is that Toyota used that same strategy for the 2000 Celica GTS 6-speed that I own. I think I paid just under $21,000 when I purchased it back in 1999. The European and JDM versions of the GTS were quite a lot more than that, but they also had navigation and automatic climate control which was never available in our market. In order to help sell the Celica cheaply in the USA, Toyota strip it down and make some of the options unavailable in order to sell it cheaper in the USA than they did anywhere else in the world.

Hi all,

Long time lurker, second time poster (after an introduction a while ago). I just thought I would share a post from Toyota on their UK Facebook page in a response to a post I made about price speculation.

"Toyota UK Hi Nicola and Jonathan,

Thanks for your comments.

The price that is being reported in the media is speculation - we are still working on final pricing for the UK, but we can tell you that we are aiming to be able to price the GT 86 at closer to £25k when it launches in six months' time."

I hope this helps. Great forum

From what I've noticed so far. All in U.S $ with on road costs
US - 25-26k on road
Australia - 37-38k
Japan - 33-34k
Canada - 34-35k

What do you guys think ?

Have a look at this website for the rrp of all cars in Aust, just to compare on other
cars. Www.redbook.com.au
This is a delusional price for Canada. Scion will be about $2000 to $2500 more than the US version. Subaru will likely be $7000 more than the US version because Subaru hates Canada.

The price of this car will be comparable to that of its potential rivals (e.g., mx-5, genesis coupe, mustang, etc.). It's simple as that.

NOT IN CANADA!

Toyota/Scion/Lexus, Hyundai and Ford are very competitive and provide excellent value to Canadians.

Other manufacturers like Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Infiniti, Audi, BMW and several others milk us for every cent. The Mustang GT is also way cheaper in the USA but they are very easy to import.

Mazda Miata Base: USA: $23200 Canada: $29000
Ford Mustang V6 Base: USA: $22310 Canada: $22249
Genesis Coupe 2.0T: USA: $22250 Canada: $24899 (Plus $2500 cash rebate)
Subaru Impreza WRX 5 door: USA: $25595 Canada: $33400
Lexus IS 250: USA: $33595 Canada: $33895
Honda Civic SI: USA: $22405 Canada: $26000
BMW 128I: USA: $31050 Canada: $36000

£28,000 is ridiculous. At that price I expect each car to be hand-made, with the exclusivity of no more than 1,000 produced per year, and to come with stuff from the LFA like its gearbox.

But seriously £28,000 is ridiculous. It has to be a mistake... I hope.

No, your bank or credit union has the best financing options.

I'm hoping (not guessing) that the Scion comes in at no more than 23, and the Subaru no more than 24.5. At least there's haggle room on the Scooby. Or ways to get great pricing.

If you're in the military you need to call up USAA and/or Navyfed to see what they can offer.

Well, pricing seems to be changing by the day...

Today the press are saying that Toyota UK will be trying to get the price as close to £25K as they can. Maybe that will be £25,500 basic and then options on top of that?

Is there a way for non-military to get financing through USAA? I've heard they have great rates and service.

When I was going to buy a tc, scion offered me better rates than USAA or Keesler FCU.

Plus they offered me $1500 military discount.

Yes, you must be family with someone who is a USAA member.
